3 before bedtime tonight, a momentary lapse.

Although I am no big Pink Floyd man, I do have a few albums from my youth; Obscured by clouds, which is excellent, Wish you were here, Animals, again excellent but it is The Wall that has excited me lately and had a good outing before Christmas. I really liked it when it first came out, it was completely different to all music I had been listening to up to that time. Some excellent songs and lyrics, interesting concept and wonderful artwork and design from Gerald Scarf. Ralph Steadman and Martin Rowson would have been good candidates to do follow up album artwork for Pink Floyd, infact Martin Rowson did a cartoon, ‘Dark side of the loon’, a few years back.

1 – Wot’s uh the deal - From Obscured by clouds – Possibly one of the best Pink Floyd songs written IMO and the basis of many of their acoustic style numbers IMO.

2 – Nobody home - From side 3 of the Wall - I have always fancied a pair of Gohils boots

3 – Mother – From side 1 of The Wall- Marvellous song.

Nighty night.

3 before bedtime tonight – Feeling groovy.

Whist trawling youtube music vids, I came upon Simon and Garfunkel’s ‘The Boxer - live from Central Park’ 1981 I think. Okay, we all know it, but for some reason, this particular version totally blew my socks off! What makes it, is Art Garfunkel’s presence, and total command of the song. Paul Simon in comparison, looks like a naughty schoolboy (for some sinister reason, I never warmed to him and in turn, never bothered with the duo) but this version grabs me by the balls. If you see it watch out for the spectacular closeup of Art Garfunkel’s face straight to camera, incredible features.

1 – The Boxer live from Central park - I think I had had a few, which always helps to improve a song

2 – So long Frank Lloyd Wright – Everyone’s favourite song of theirs and mine.

3 – A Hazy shade of winter – It too reminds me of California dreamin’. Which came first?

Nighty night.

#1 "That's What Makes Us Great" - Joe Grushecky & the Houserockers -(feat. Bruce Springsteen) - A great bit of anti-Trump rock and roll.

#2 "Dear Mr President" - Pink Complete with lyrics.

#3 "Fergus Laing" - Richard Thompson. Guess who this one's about.

Fergus he builds and builds
Yet small is his erection
Fergus has a fine head of hair
When the wind's in the right direction

I'm looking forward to waking tomorrow and then, later, watching Joe Biden's inauguration at around 17:00.

As much as I'll be watching a new regime of hope being ushered in though, I'll be imagining the tangerine twat and secretly hoping that he's alone at the airport, apart from his family, and his security detail, and feeling as dejected as fuck with no social media for him to cry on, and rail against the perceived injustice of it all.

Fuckety-bye Donald. There's a nice jumpsuit that'll match your complexion somewhere in your future, I hope.

G'night all.

3 before bedtime tonight.
The whale of a lie like they hope it was.

Got stuck down a Rabbit hole these past few weeks. A twisting, turning, adventure, accelerating me down a warren of no return. No answers just statements of grey nothingness. (What is he going on about?). As a result, no music has been listened to.

After surfacing from the depths of murk, all is now Hunky Dory!

One of the first few albums I bought, a safe and homely, full of familiarity. Very hard to pick 3 tracks from an album that most definitely, has to be listened to in order. Exception made.

1 – Oh you pretty things/ eight line poem (these 2 just have to go together)

2 – Quicksand

2 – The Bewlay Brothers

Nighty night.

3 before bedtime tonight.

This charming album.

On his Wednesday afternoon R6 show last week, Steve Lamacq featured the Sunday's 1990 album Reading, Writing and Arithmetic. He summed up the album fairly concisely and there is not much I could add without repeating him. His experience of the album, over the past 31 years, was much the same as mine and it was nice to hear someone convey the same feelings. It has 'played' a major part in my life since 1991 when I was first introduced to it/them. It is emotionally powerful, with songs that are full of guilty innocence and naive experiences, and I like the lack of bitterness and cynicism. An album of awakenings and new horizons...

It is described as jangle pop. Indeed, the guitar does have a certain jangle to it, inspired by the 80's style of, Johnny Marr maybe, but to me it sounds more charming.

1 - Skin and bones

2 - Here's where the story ends

3 - My finest hour

Nighty night.

Had a scan through the CD racks and ran into 'Blind', The Sundays second album. Do remember getting 'Reading, Writing & Arithmetic' when it first came out - it got rave reviews in the music press back then - but the disc appears to have vanished in the mists of time.

Blind is also excellent. A bit more rainy weekend, late afternoon, melancholic sounding.

I've got both the albums and I like very much but not played for a long while. Need to be in a certain mood I find.

Yes, most deffinately need to be in the right mood. For me they are best played while plastering or painting or rewiring a room. Odd I know.
