Queen are top of my list, Dylan runs them close, ditto Cohen. Not keen on Bjork, Abba, Blondie, Black Sabbath, Beastie Boys, the Who and anything that the smug git Mark Ronson is involved with

It has to be Genesis for me, I have a few of their early albums, up to 1980. Reason being, when working in Sheffield, I bought them mint for a pound each in a record shop just off Union Street. So I have made an attempt to listen and enjoy. Several years later, they still have not clicked and I just don’t get Gabriel’s Genesis. However, I keep trying and playing them from time to time, determined one day it may just click.

I quite like the Collins’ Genesis years, poppy hits, much more sing–a- longable. Feel free to scoff.
I am currently trying ‘The Lamb lies down...’ maybe it has something? a bit more accessible maybe?…. Still listening…Still persevering…
Kevin.

I was sat thinking about this last night and another artist came to mind, Joni Mitchell. Now normally female vocalists are high up on my list of listening delights (Lucinda Williams, Sandy Denny, Eva Cassidy, Erin McKeown to name a few) but there is just something about her voice and style that I just cannot take to. Now and again Radio Paradise will play a Joni Mitchell song that I quite like but generally no, not for me. If that god awful Big Yellow Taxi comes on the radio I have to switch it off.

I’m a big Rush fan. It’s not just the music. Neil Peart’s lyrics are sometimes very profound. Three incredible musicians including a first-class lyricist.
I know you like Rush a lot, if you recall I bought your old Synology NAS a couple of years ago and there was plenty of Rush albums on there to chose from

ps: just listening to Carole King's Tapesty :handgestures-thumbupleft:

The first few albums with Collins singing are my favourites and I would not describe them as poppy. IMO the decline set in when Hackett quit the band. Don't think you will find The Lamb lies down accessable.

Biffy Clyro - normally a bit of gallic influence does me well but this just leaves me cold.
The National - All my friends like these but I still cant find a way in.
Noel Gallagher / High flying birds - still raping Beatles back catalogue for a newer generation.
Nick Cave - absolutely love 'the boatman's call' but you can keep the rest.
Morrisey - loved the Smiths but its all just awful by himself.
Queens of the stone age - one hit song endlessly re-hashed, things are rely not that desperate there are good bands out there.
Pixies - 'Much ado about nothing' endless hype and re-launches by a desperate music press.
Neil Young - ( see 'Pixies' above) at the risk of upsetting someone please tell me what the attraction is.
Don't gas my Badger........it's not Lager..!

Indeed, many band/artists mentioned that I absolutely love, and some that I can't abide. Yet many many people must like them.

On a slightly different note I always felt I should like Beefheart but really couldn't get him at all. Then I started exploring Zappa starting with the Best Band You Never Heard and eventually got to Bongo Fury. At that point the penny dropped and I now have pretty much everything he did. Likewise I got to Gong through Hillage. Whilst ELP and Yes have proven to be musical scorched earth for me I don't regret trying.

I have problems with both Zappa and Beefheart. 'Hot Rats' and 'Ship Arriving Too Late to Save a Drowning Witch' are about all I can handle.

Coldplay. First 2 albums are quite good. Then I gave up.
