There used to be some graffiti under one of the bridges on the A64 going in to Leeds which said "Captain Dogfart"

Used to make me chuckle when driving to the recording studio near Yorkshire TV.

'Coldplay. First 2 albums are quite good. Then I gave up.'

Could not agree more, the only good thing is it does not matter if you put the wrong disc in the wrong cover!

I quite like the Collins’ Genesis years, poppy hits, much more sing–a- longable. Feel free to scoff.
I am currently trying ‘The Lamb lies down...’ maybe it has something? a bit more accessible maybe?…. Still listening…Still persevering…
The first few albums with Collins singing are my favourites and I would not describe them as poppy. IMO the decline set in when Hackett quit the band. Don't think you will find The Lamb lies down accessable.
Perhaps Poppy was the wrong choice now and for the the seasoned Genesis fan, but for the average chart hunter, my only clues to their sound were 'Follow you..' and ''Turn it on..' so I was always expecting, poppy. You are right, they are not. But as the years rolled along, did they become so?

Another thing that has drawn me to Genesis, and in particular 'The Lamb..' is it contains one of my top NN songs - 'Carpet Crawlers' I think 'Follow you..' would be in the list also, which is a bit of a strange statement for someone who ''never got Genesis''

The only Genesis album I play occasionally at the moment is 'Abacab' probably the least Genesis-sounding album they ever made.

I never really "got" most of the bands so far mentioned, I have some Genesis albums and much prefer the earlier material, after Wind and Wothering... no thanks. I like some Yes but most I just don't get. Pink Floyd, again I like some but other tracks not so much. With other bands there is the odd track that I like but I wouldn't buy the album for one track.

My preference is classical music, live where possible, opera has to be live, it just doesn't work any other way, for me at least. I can however see why people dont "get" classical music.

The smiths. Cant stand them.
The cure. The missus loves them so im subjected to them on a regular basis, but they dont do anything for me.
Oasis. Always just thought of them as a pair of twats with some music behind them.
King crimson. Dont get it
Elp. Just ....... no.
Suede. I always thought they were crap.
Radiohead. Miserable shite. Creep is the only barely acceptable one for me

On the flip side, bands i really like that i used to argue about on a regular basis with others who didnt get or couldnt stand, were placebo, nirvana, garbage, the prodigy, everything but the girl, joy division (a left field choice when you are 14) and human league. I can remember having a standup row with a mate in andys records when i bought fat of the land and he bought some godawful suede record!

Ditto - I have been to the opera twice including Pavarotti at the NEC a very long time ago. We took a bunch of our better customers and their partners, from memory we had central seats about 6 rows back and it was a truly wonderful occasion.

Gluck's 'Orfeo & Eurydice' performed outside on a floating stage in the park of a Dutch royal palace was a memorable occasion.

An early opera in Baroque style, which is great if you don't enjoy the composers of the Romantic era (like me).

I have tried hard to warm to the works of Mendelssohn and Schubert, for example, and my choir once rehearsed only German-language Romantic works for six months as a concert project. I really hated that.
