Pretty much every album in that list deserves to be called a "classic," in my book. They're also albums that spent weeks and weeks in the charts. Meddle, for instance, only peaked at #3, but it spent 85 weeks in the chart. LA Woman, peaked at #9 and spent 36 weeks on the chart, but it was only The Doors' 6th most popular album. In 50 years time, no matter how good they are, or are considered to be, I can't see people having the same conversations about Little Mix, or Juice Wrld (sic).

Guess who's #20 in the current official top50 right now. It's Fleetwood Mac with "50 Years, Don't Stop". #6 is Neil Diamond, #8 is Queen, #14 is Elton John, and so it goes on. Again, I can't see the ephemeral bitts of fluff currently troubling the charts still being there, going strong, after 50 years.

We may be old, but we've got bloody good taste.

Electric Warrier was the first for me. It was a birthday present early in 72. I saved up my pocket money and bought Every Picture Tells a Story. Hunky Dory was next in 73 when Bowie exploded on the scene. More affordable singles were my priority back then.

I'd have been 17 and I'd already seen The Stones and Floyd live when I was 15 and 16 respectively. I was heavily into music, and haven't really changed. I know I've said it a lot, but it's mostly about the music rather than the hifi with me, and always has been. That doesn't mean I don't want the best sound I can afford, and in later years I've had some fun building up, tearing down, and building up my second system, and "going digital" to boot, but it's still a means to an end when all's said and done.

Like wise, saw the Stones, Rod Stuart along with Brian Augers Trinity featuring many great profomers, Geno Washington, The Who and many more at Ealing jazz club, Rikki Tick Hounslow or Blue triangle Ealing. Was really into Mowtown and Blue note around that time. Had an american friend at Ealing tech whos father was quite happy to post new releases(lucky son, lucky me) Then it was very much about Liive Music. little old leak amp, garrad and god knows what speakers to get there. Spent the most of my money going to clubs to hear bands live. Would be nice to emulate thet now. First record I ever purchased with my own earned money? The Kinks You Really Got Me
