Re: The Nightingales supported by Stewart Lee
I've seen the nightengales about 8 times and even got drunk with fliss and the german bassist.
I still do not like the music they make. Ted chippington is ace though.
And fliss is an ace drummer

I’m watching the gig via iPad.
Was glitchy at the start, but no problems since
Really enjoying it.
Did you watch King Rocker on Sky Arts, loved that. Loads of memories flooded back, and quite funny to boot.

Re: The Nightingales supported by Stewart Lee
Yeah, the film was marvellous.
Heard their first peel session 'under the covers' when I was supposed to be asleep for school in the morning. Loved them ever since but did lose touch for a bit when Rob 'went pop' for a couple of months and then seemed to disappear.
As well as being a brilliant drummer, Fliss is a good foil for Rob and keeps everything organised.
Ted was supporting them the last time I saw them, in Middlesbrough.

Really enjoyed it. Great gig.
I saw Ted Chipperton a few times decades back. Terrible and brilliant, all at the same time.
I always like John Cooper Clarke too. I had a few beers with him and Captain Sensible before Damned gig in the late 80’s. A very enjoyable few hours.

On top form.
Many of the 'old' bands I go to see are now really only their own cabaret act. Not so with these, despite the jackets.

I love live music. I’ve seen The Damned nearly 100 times, similar with New Model Army & about 50 times forThe Stranglers, though never bother with the strangler after Hugh left.
Best live gig in recent years was Joanna Newsom, about 2 years ago in Hammersmith. Just incredible.
Also Jessca Hoop, Eels were all fantastic live.

Re: The Nightingales supported by Stewart Lee
Blimey. I thought I'd seen The Damned a lot. Half that figure, I would think.
I agree about Hugh. Never ever felt the urge after he went.
I had a splurge of gigs from age 14 to 18 when I lived near enough to London. Then it went a bit quiet after moving to Southend in 84 - just missed the Feelgood pub rock scene. Then picked up again as the indie / baggy / grunge scene took off and I fell in with a gang of mates with the same tastes.

Re: The Nightingales supported by Stewart Lee
I’ve seen a few reunion gigs in the years before lockdown. My kids (21-29) love a bit of ‘Men at Work’, so took them to the London gig about 18 months back.
Musically, the songs were well presented, but terrible on stage chemistry, like a bunch of statues on stage, and Colin Hay’s mumbling Scottish accent was impenetrable between songs. Was a real let down for them.
