Audiofools , hung-up on systems, are - the same as religious people - music-ignorant.

Their world is AC/DC,Elton John, Paul McCartney and whatever current fad they are being FED.

They have no desire to search for music on their own.

Elton John is total cack. The other two are OK apart from Frog chorus and he can't sing for toffee these days.

Record Collectors don't like music, they value only rare and obscure releases but have no appreciation for the talent and inspiration that created them.

Neither are Record Collectors interested in the equipment used to play the music. If they ever listen to it at all.

I don't know why I'm bothering to comment on this - it has nothing in common with this forum or the (mostly) interesting folk with similar interests and widely-ranging tastes in music to be found here.

Rant over. :snooty:

I agree. The obscureness is used as some sort of eliteness and one-upmanship. There is a reason some of it is so obscure, it's complete and utter unlistenable cack.

For me there is only one true progressive (why do people call it 'prog') band and that's YES. To be honest, at my age I know what I like, and no longer wish to search for some band that made one album back in 1971, which someone on the internet has labelled 'prog' and it's the best thing since sliced bread. My music tastes have changed, although the artists that get the most listens would be those that I liked back in the day, except for one, that being Acoustic Alchemy, who I first heard about in 1987. I started going to see live acts in 1970, and although I may have enjoyed certain bands, does not mean I immediately purchased their LP.

Prog was a labei which emerged in the early 70s. Ian Anderson was somewhat amused by Aqualung being labelled prog, so the follow up Thick as a brick was a piss take. Boundaries are so blurred. Most of what was labelled hair metal was not metal at all. Lemmy was not happy about Motorhead being classed as metal, saying punk was more appropriate.
