We're talking about a target area about the size of a small water melon. At 130 metres. Shooting from a stable prone position. With a rifle that's accurate to 1 MOA, which equates to shot groupings with a diameter of about 1.5 inches at 130 metres. And a muzzle velocity of 1000 metres per second equating to a bullet travel time of 0.15 seconds.

It's the equivalent of a 2 foot putt in golf. And Matthew Crooks, a member of a shooting club, fluffed it.

Something I've just heard is that the "sniper" was such a poor shot that he didn't even make his school's shooting team. Add that to the fact that people had started pointing at him and a policeman had been made aware of his presence, which he would have seen, he panicked and loosed five rounds, which is "only" half of a standard AR 15 clip. Good job(?) he hadn't fitted a "bump stock" and got a whole clip off or the damage to bystanders especially, might have been even worse.

If you’re not good with a rifle, missing is easy, I can do it 99% of the time (I haven't tried often enough to refine that). I dare say there are things I find easy that you can’t do at all. If we find something easy we generally don’t understand why others can’t do it.

We're not talking about something that some people find easy and other people find difficult.

We're talking about a modern precision piece of engineering. Being allowed to do something that's so far within its' comfort zone, that it's objectively easy.

In November 2023 Viacheslav Kovalskyi shot a Russian soldier at a range of 3800 metres. That's a difficult shot, requiring skill, the right conditions and some luck.
1100 metres is considered to be the threshold of long range sniping where intense training and practice are required.

130 metres is fish in a barrel range.
