I think it is way too optimistic. Ryanair offered us the option of rescheduling or cancelling with a full refund. We choose the latter. It seems everyone else is doing the same and that is why refunds are taking so long. We have no idea when there will be a return to some sort of normality.

Had an email from Ryanair with a voucher. The thieving bastards say if the voucher is not accepted there will be no refunds issued until the Corona crisis is over. :angry-screaming: There is a lot of uproar about this on the Internet and it seems trying to contact them is a waste of time. Sent a stroppy email which will be buried amongst all the others. It is reported that they are sitting on £3.5 billion. Will have to see how this unfolds amidst all the outrage. Do not want to claim on the holiday insurance as there is a £95 excess.

We had no problems getting quite a lot of money back between all of us for the villa we had booked for ten in Lanzarote. Airlines seem to be a law unto themselves and Ryanair are the worst as not long ago we were assured we would be refunded within 20 working days. Yesterday they went back on that with an email containing a link to a voucher which would expire after a year. Anyone activating the link would be likely to forego any chance of a refund.

I have got the money back from the law breaking scoundrals after taking the matter up with my credit card company. :guiness; I would advise anyone being robbed by unscrupulous airlines or travel companies to do the same thing.

But for Covid 19 we would be on our free fijords cruise now as part of the compensation for the ill fated one a year ago. The travel company has put this back a year when hopefully there will be a vaccine.

There will not be a free cruise next year as the cruise company has gone bust. Hardly surprising with a pandemic. No way we would go on a cruise ship without a vaccine anyway and I expect most people are of the same mind.

My family and I went to Whitby on Friday lunchtime and got back tea time today. We were all rather nervous about it but since it was booked and paid for at Christmas it would have been money thrown away. We were very nervous about going beforehand.

Overall we enjoyed it especially the beach which wasn't crowded and the take out pie and mash from the humble pie shop (you must go there). Equally good was climbing the Abbey steps and relaxing in a grass field at the top with brilliant views of Whitby town below.

The bad bits were stressful. The apartment kitchen had crumbs on the toaster and work surfaces even though they made a big fuss about being covid ready. It suggests to me that it wasn't cleaned properly. Fifteen minutes later it was  Any walk through the streets was just a joke. Too busy, not much distancing going on and people ignoring or not seeing instuctions about one way systems :angry-fire:

Gave me a headache trying toavoid people. And the place was full of chavs. Honestly I am not a snob but the fact is the great unwashed were there in droves.

Very informative. We are considering going somewhere self catering next month but I am not convinced it is worth the risk and stress. We made the most of going away a lot for two and a half years following my retirement. Might well be prudent to hang on until there is a vaccine and then make up for lost time.
