Yeah, don't do it. Too many idiots about and businesses only bothered about making money. There were exceptions to this however. Only reason I went was cos it was paid for. Got a weekend in Bowness as well next month which was also paid for in December. That is it for us this year and maybe next year as well.

If people can be avoided then I see no problem in going on holiday. It's not really possible though in the majority of cases.

Spent Monday to Friday in Bowness. Apartment was very clean but still wiped things down. The town was bustling at times and was a bit panic inducing. Maybe I live a too sheltered life working mostly on my own in the great outdoors but every time I go to a busy built up place I find myself constantly working out the best path through endless people who don't seem to give a shit.

The lake boats were running and we went on one. Book and pay in advance, lots of seats out of bounds, masks compulsory. It wasn't that bad and we enjoyed our little trip to Ambleside although we didn't go in to the village. We only got as far as the lakeside park next to where you get off the boat. It was ideal for the kids as they could run about climb rocks & trees and paddle in the water.

Eating was a mixture of take away and self catering. Not once did we go for a sit down meal in a bar or restaurant and didn't miss it to be honest.

I laugh at all these numpties that just can not live without a foreign holiday. Get a grip.

I go on one or two 'foreign holidays' a year. I will miss them very much this year but it makes no sense for me to travel overseas, right now, when I don't have to. Different if it's essential work or to see family. If I'd booked and paid for a holiday, pre-Covid, then I guess I'd be a bit conflicted about whether to still go or lose the cash...

I had a text and email today from our travel insurance company saying our annual premium is due for renewal. When Covid broke out half way through it our cover was curtailed. I contacted them saying we should have a 50% refund as we would not be going anywhere and had paid a large supplement for a cruise which would be cancelled. They did not respond. I replied to them today bringing this to their attention and have received an acknowledgement. I said we would only take out a policy with them, when we consider it safe to travel, if they provide a substantial discount to compensate for a year policy which only lasted six months.

I don't think we will be going on holiday in the forseeable future and am so glad we were away so much in the past few years, to the point of wanting to spend more time at home. When/if things are safe I will want to make up for lost time including concerts, racing and pubs. :guiness;

Umm - the lack of response from your insurance company suggests that you should lodge a formal complaint. You were telling them in not so many words that you wanted to cancel it. Regardless of how you worded it - they should have got in touch with you to find out what you wanted to do with your policy.

I still renewed my annual policy because it was originally taken out a few years ago and renewing it meant that it would maintain the same cover and any Covid related cancellations / issues would not be excluded. If I had allowed a break between renewals then the new policy would have specifically excluded certain Covid related circumstances. Worth checking how your insurer handles this question.

I always let my annual policy expire and look around for the best deal to commence the next time we go away. It will be interesting to see what the insurance company say if and when they come back with a substantive reply. They had a nerve to request a renewal when I only had half the policy I paid for. Did not have to claim on them because of Covid, eventually getting money back from Ryanair through the credit card company.

They texed and emailed me today saying the policy expired yesterday and asking me to renew. :lol: My messages about paying for an anual policy which was only effective for six months completely ignored.
