Very late to hearing this news and sorry to do so - condolences to Nadia on her loss. Not been active here as due to Richard's kit I have felt no need to do anything but use the system to play music which must be as good a testament as anything else.

Just catching up with the sad news after a bit of a break from HiFi forums.
We may not have seen eye to eye in the beginning, but Richard was willing to put things behind him and move on.
His opinions on HiFi will be missed.

I wrote to Richard a few weeks after his passing, unaware of the sad news. When I got no response I did a few Google searches and realised he was gone for good. I have known a few out spoken people like Richard (in different fields though) and I have always got on very well.
I first met Richard back in the early 90s when flush with the first decent bonus of my young life, I went to his "barn" at Hately St George and after a cuppa and a brief RD indoctrination I gave him my bonus and he was kind enough to give me a P70, 2 X A80s, 2 x PSU, 2 x Cubix, some speaker cable and two of the heaviest speaker stands known to mankind.
That remains one of my best decisions. All the kit is still in use and Richard repaired one of the A80's earlier this year for a very modest fee. My letter was about upgrading my cable and buying a phono stage but for now thats on hold. Its difficult to say how much I valued the honesty and stength of Richards opinion and without doubt the audio world is a paler, poorer place without him. My sincere condolences to his family and close friends. Where ever you are my friend, continue to tell it as you hear it ;)

Tomorrow marks the first anniversary of Richard's passing.

Rather than start a new thread, I've bumped this one so that members can read the comments that were posted last year, as well as adding further comments, below.

Over the next day, or so, raise a glass (or several) of your favourite tipple to a man who was truly remarkable, and a man who gave us so much musical enjoyment. We miss him, very much.

Cheers to you, Richard. See you up there...

Apart from my father, Richard was the only person I can recall calling me a "cloth eared fool" or words to that effect 😁
Fwiw I think that type of direct honesty is refreshing and I miss his no nonsense approach to music. I will dig out a decent whisky tomorrow and raise a glass to his memory 👍

I think I gave Richard over £2k which was indeed a fair old chunk of cash back in the day.

Just had a word with Nadia. Tomorrow she will remember the life her and Richard had together. As she said 'it will always be a special day for me'.

I'm missing him less now than I was 350 days ago.

Time is a great healer.

I still miss him. And I still find myself imagining what he would say in response to posts and threads on this forum.
Like the recent speaker enclosure thread. :epopc:

I think he'd be pleased that this forum is still going and that NVA products are still being sold direct with no middle man.

I know it's an awful cliche, so allow me to get it out of the way for everyone, I honestly cannot believe it's been a year. Like Lindsay, I catch myself wondering how he'd have reacted to some of the now long-running threads here, particularly those concerning DIY digital streaming, and hi-fi network cables. I cannot help feeling that there may have been a few "FFS" broadsides delivered.
