Might be easier for your wife to extend her visit to her father.

I wish I could visit my family in the UK but that is pretty well impossible at the moment.

It is a very stressfull time. This is the last my wife will see of her dad and spending ten days alone in a hotel room alone, at such a timeh, is enough to drive anyone nuts. On top of this a good friend, who has a condition, has recently gone down with Covid along with his wife. The land lord of his local and his wife died from it not long ago.

Hopefully someone in Brussels has been sacked. But do I detect an aftermath of Trump's attempt to normalise the "Act now then Act Now" (as opposed to actually pausing to think or get briefed) approach. Macron too appears to have joined the other politicians who can't be bothered to get their heads around the science.

The EU are on the defensive because they were slow out of the blocks in placing orders for vaccines - 2 to 3 months behind the UK and US. The EU were determined to drive prices down and insisted that the pharma companies should hold the bulk of the liability for anything that goes wrong. They were also encumbered by a very traditional process-driven approach and the sometimes conflicting wishes of the different member states.
