If The Netherlands had run at the same speed we would have the entire country done by now! However this little country is dominated by bureaucrats who's major talent is slowing things down and making excuses.

Same old story everywhere.
Credit where it is due it is the one thing the UK Government has got right. I fear they might balls it up again by lifting restrictions too soon with these new varients about. The opening of schools should be phased as in Wales.

Agreed, after all this pain it would be galling if we we're to allow any one of these vaccine resistant variants to take hold. However I'm afraid that is what will happen when they inevitably do open up too quickly.

My feeling is that come winter we will still be stuck in the rut of vaccines chasing variants. Maybe they'll learn but I'm not holding my breath.

In other news it's nearly lunch time and a glass of beer to wash it down beckons :guiness;

My big worry is opening up schools. Most of the people I know who caught it in the second wave got it off their kids.

I for one have never been very comfortable with the idea that younger children couldn't carry the virus. Just the same as being confused with the last lifting of lockdown and everyone rushing to the pub. Don't know about where you live but here they overflowed into the street where I live. It is totally beyond me that the main concern for many is "holiday" sure I/we all could do with one? We have had a flue virus for I don't know how many years, with an antivirus available yet still it kills many. If this recent outbreak doesn't convince people to be more attentive, realistic and considerate of those they live and spend time with, I don't believe we have much hope.

A firm is being investigated by the UK medical regulator after it was awarded a £30m contract during the pandemic.

Alex Bourne - who used to run a pub near Matt Hancock's old constituency home in West Suffolk - made vials for Covid testing through his firm Hinpack, which had no history of medical goods.

The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has confirmed it is now investigating the company.

Mr Hancock has previously said he had nothing to do with the contract.

The MHRA said it took "all reports of non-compliance very seriously".

The Guardian reported Mr Bourne had offered his services to the government via a personal WhatsApp message to the health secretary, saying they had known each other for years.

To know this makes it better?

That's akin to saying, "Well, we found out who stole your money mister Smith, but the bloke had spent it, so we'll just let it go, OK?

Whether it makes it "better" or not is probably irrelevant.

What it does is highlight the iniquity of the Chumocracy within government, and if enough similar cases are raised then eventually this "bungs for chums" culture will have to be ended, along with a few political careers one hopes.

It's an uphill struggle, but one I certainly think is worthwhile, and it's why I support The Good Law Project who have just succeeded in getting a High Court ruling, proving that “The Secretary of State acted unlawfully by failing to comply with the 'Transparency Policy' and that “there is now no dispute that, in a substantial number of cases, the Secretary of State breached his legal obligation to publish Contract Award Notices within 30 days of the award of contracts.”

It's another step along the way, and hats off to Jo Maugham and his team I say.

If we don't hold these people to account they will simply go on stealing, cheating, and lining both their own and their chums' pockets with "our" money. I want this stopped. It's in my nature to question the abuse of governmental power and to do what I can to end it. I was a trades union rep for many years, and I've stood on picket lines both with my own co-workers and in support of Firemen, and Nurses over the years. Consequently, it's not in me to understand the apparent apathy from our so-called Leader of the Opposition, and the general air of malaise throughout the country which allows these politicians carry on gaslighting, scheming, and stealing.

Better is the only way to go. I don't know how and it would appear, no one does. Better is imo never irrelevant. But the hope we all? can embrace it.
