The government's preparations for border processes after 31st December have been described by the Road Hauliers Association as an "utter shambles".

The software that they will be required to use (regardless of whether there is a deal or not) has not yet been released, and is not expected to be ready until 23rd December.

This whole thing is symptomatic of incompetent British management structures. The system has been rotten to the core since the mid 60s, which is why we have no mass market British made car industry, no motorcycle industry, very little steel industry; the list goes on.

Corruption is rife throughout the awarding of contracts. Cronyism rules. “Its not what you know but who you know” is celebrated in this country as if it’s somehow a bloody virtue. The whole edifice is sickening and the saddest part of all this is that nothing will change.

It's not just in industry that this attitude is rife. I was lucky that I managed to avoid the worst of this until what turned out to be the twilight of my career. Being manoeuvred into changing service providers each time there was a change at the top to accommodate the new incumbents cronies did me in after 6 years. Quite how I managed to avoid it for so long I'll never know as it was all around in that sector - and still is.

The sad part is that when I used to do a lot of work in South America, southern Africa to name a few I had this attitude that they were dens of corruption, fraud, cronyism etc. I must have been to close to it to smell the far worse corruption at home.

At last, genuine Brexit positive, and it's happening in Kent.

No-deal Brexit could lead to increase in dogging in Kent lay-bys, cabinet minister warns

A government minister fears traffic jams sparked as a result of a no-deal Brexit could lead to an unlikely surge in... dogging.

The cabinet member is said to have confessed his worries for Kent's lay-bys and quiet car parks at last week's Conservative Party conference, The Sunday Times reports.

He fears stalled lorry drivers will get bored waiting in their cabs and head out seeking lewd liaisons.

One of the things we talk about in these no-deal meetings concerns hauliers and their activities,” the minister said.

The main thing is whether they will turn up at the Channel ports with the right paperwork. But there are also dogging hotspots all over the place.”

The government's Yellowhammer contingency report warns Kent will face months of congestion and disruption, with significant two-and-a-half-day queues at ports. It does not mention dogging.

The fearful minister, who believes those delays on transport links to Dover will lead to a rise in the activity, is concerned about bored British truckers.

Do Europeans even do dogging?" he added.

"There is something deeply British about dogging.”

While the cabinet tries to muster fewer delays at Kent ports, patrols at Penenden Heath Recreation Ground in Maidstone have been stepped up in a bid to curb dogging and cottaging.

n.b. Dogging is the slang term for having sex with strangers or watching others do so in public.

I'm going to try to put some diesel in my car, later this week.

I'm not going to panic about it, I shall nonchalantly queue for however long.
