A very good guitarist I know used to call pedals talent boosters  Got him into a scrape or two (especially after a drink).

Hardly. It was my bad for assuming people know what I'm talking about even when most of the time I don't.
I've not tried Ableton but as far as I am concerned you are speaking a language I understand.

The pedal issue came up at a wedding where the guitarist/lead singer had brought her kit with her and wouldn't accept that, when she unplugged her board, the noise was absent so it had to be her board that was the cause. I also had a guitarist who was convinced our system was the reason his guitar didn't work as expected. That the system worked with every other guitar we tried didn't convince him! A little research revealed that on particular brand of guitar was wired differently and would need a specially wired cable. Someone at his college had replaced the socket as I understood it.

Always fun working with musicians, most are great and one can learn a lot, some know it all (at the age of 20).

Sounds like somebody buggered about with a Rickenbacker. Some models had what was called a "Rick-O- Sound" jack, plus a standard jack side-by-side. The Rick-O-Sound jack required a stereo cable.

If you think you know it all you're actually proving that you know bugger-all.

Strangely enough I made up a stereo lead in case we ever had the same problem again.

As a champion putting-the-cart-before-the horse-er, I thought that now I'd bought everything I ought to check if it all actually fit together. I estimate there's between 5mm and 10mm clearance on the top row of the board. Total that is, not between each pedal. . PHEW!

I have been pleasantly surprised by the sound of Caline pedals - especially the Blue Sky overdrive and Snake Bite reverb. Low cost , excellent sound and great value.

I've got a "Snakebite," myself. It's a lot of pedal for not a lot of money. I've got a couple of their CP-05 Power supplies too.
I've just had a look at their website and was surprised by the sheer amount of pedals that they make. http://www.calinemusic.com/a/chanpin/shejijianzhu/

Cuvave (not Covfefe) are getting quite a good reputation too, in the same sort of low-priced arena.

I will check them out, but very happy with the two Caline pedals. I will be trying them out in a rehearsal / recoding effort this coming weekend, playing live and recording then seeing what happens, like real musicians used to......
