Eye of newt and toe of frog - a curse on Microsoft ...

Yes, they have done it again;

The portents have foretold that Windows 11 is to be announced with spanking new features and a look suspiciously reminiscent of an Apple PC.

Also Microsoft thoughtfully provide you with a check-app to see if your computer will be able to accommodate this wonderful, world-beating and most-absolutely, scrumptiously best operating system ever.

Well - none of the 4 desktops / laptops that I have running Windows 10 will be able to manage the upgrade to Windows 11. Methinks 'tis a cunning plan to get the whole world to invest in new hardware and ditch gear that has been comfortably used for years.

Stuff 'em.

Indeed exactly the same as with W10, machines that were perfectly adequate running 7 or 8 ground to a halt, but not immediately, oh no that would be too honest, they bounced you into the 'upgrade' saying the machines were adequate, only at the 10/11th update did things go awry and suddenly machines need twice as much RAM to run effectively. Our machines are fine, but couple of oldies in the village fell foul of this.

Ho hum.

My Intel i7-7700 3.6GHz CPU on this machine is not supported by W11, and I've just had to buy a TPM 2.0 module for the mobo I bought ready to build my next PC. It's happy about the new AMD Ryzen™ 9 3900XT though.

To anyone who really wants to "upgrade" to W11, I'd say wait and let the dust settle before making any hasty judgements.

You Tube is full of videos showing how the so called minimum specifications might not be absolutely essential.

Even Microsoft have contradicted themselves on certain issues.

That cuts both ways though, so be careful. Originally they specced TPM 1.2 but that's since been revised up to TPM 2.0.

I have a horrible feeling that TPM 2.0 modules are going to go the route of graphics cards and become a distant memory. The scalpers are already all over them. I paid £24.99 for mine on Amazon yesterday (now sold out) and the same model on eBay is £99.99 + £3.85 postage today. Every other one is being auctioned, not sold.

The image does look rather like a Mac but if I want something that looks like a Mac I'll use a Mac, like this one. I have a Windows tablet but if it won't take Windows 11 I won't be terribly worried, if they stop supporting 10 it will probably still work. If it doesn't work it will be back to my XP machine in the garage for car manuals.

Another point in W11's favour or I think it is, is that it will run Android applications natively. That augurs well for syncing stuff on tablets and desktops.

The next major change appears to be the onward march of Teams, which will be an integrated component of W11, and the downward spiral of Skype which, for the first time, will no longer be a pre-installed app, and which has now been relegated to a MS STore download.

Also getting the boot it would appear are Cortana, which will no longer be pinned to the taskbar; Internet Explorer is disabled by default in favour of the more modern Edge browser; and tools such as OneNote, Paint 3D, and Windows' 3D viewer app are getting the Skype treatment and becoming optional store downloads.
