COVID - my week

Unread post by savvypaul »

Well, that wasn't the most pleasant time of times. Nothing life threatening, but you definitely want to give it the swerve, if at all possible.

Days 1 to 4 - fairly aggressive head cold - cough, sore throat, headaches, jaw ache, back ache, runny / blocked nose, loss of smell / taste (about 3 days in).

Day 5 - felt a lot better.

Day 6 & 7 - vomiting and pretty horrific diarrhoea (think of the toilet scene in trainspotting - I never knew that shit could actually fizz as it comes out of your arse!). All accompanied by a banging headache and return of sore throat.

Yesterday and today - feeling a good bit better, but taking time for appetite to return, still quite tired.

My ex works for the NHS - she brought me an oximeter, which is a little device that clips on your finger and measures your oxygen saturation levels (this is the potential life threatener and can change quite quickly, so it doesn't hurt to have a check every so often just to reassure yourself) - they can be bought online for around £15. She also brought supplies of paracetamol, honey and lemon and dioralyte sachets (my pee was like black tea).

I'm hoping that the little Coronabastard hasn't got any more surprises lined up for me. I'm released back into society, on Thursday...all being well.

Sounds fairly similar to my experience of Corona about a year ago - a 3-day migraine/heavy flu. The loss of taste and smell took several months to clear up completely, there was a lasting feeling of general fatigue/sombreness that lasted for about 2 months. Also I have had slightly reduced concentration & memory since then.

My wife had it much harder and is still suffering from reduced physical and mental capacity, 'Long Covid'.

It isn't 'just a flu' and don't let anyone tell you that it is. It is a nasty virus that affects everyone differently. Basically if you haven't needed to be hospitalised, then you've got off lightly.

Sounds about par for the course. Hope you are over it soon. As Fret says it effects different people in different ways. I know of people, one with health issues, who got off very lightly prior to vaccination. Others have not been so lucky and have lasting effects. My next door neighbour was very rough for a short while but made a quick full recovery. She thinks she would have ended up in hospital but for being double jabbed.

It is nearly six months since I had my second jab and I am awaiting notification of a booster. I am glad that we have restrictions in Wales (like more or less everywhere else except England under bonkers Boris) and needed my vaccine passport to go to the races the other week. Feel reasonably safe at out door events but am avoiding packed in door ones, so no concerts.

Today is my first day of feeling a bit more normal after testing +ve last Sunday.

I'm glad you're feeling better too Paul.

This thing is definitely NOT like a flu, and even though I haven't been super ill, it was still a bit frightening to realise I couldn't think straight for a couple of days.
Worst for me was a bout of chest pain, along with an absolute bastard of a headache.
I never completely lost my sense of taste though, which is lucky.

My advice: avoid if at all possible!

Glad to hear you are over the worst Paul. Sounds a real bummer.

My wife has had it and my son currently has it. Me and my daughter have managed to avoid it so far and I slept in the same bed as my wife. I don't know how we have evaded it as he is coughing his head off at this very moment.

I mentioned our next door neighbour having a bad dose in my previous post. Her husband did not catch it off her and we could hear her coughing loudly from the garden. I think being double jabbed might have had something to do with it. My stepson passed it on to his fiance, but she had only had the first jab.
