Took the tow bar off. Wanted to check the bolts holding it on. These bolts wouldn't shift, even after I swore at them. First one snapped. Thought bugger this and got the gas torch out to heat them up. They all came out eventually (twelve of them). Put some new bolts in with lashings of copper grease to help next time i take it off. The snapped bolt required a nut welding on to the tiny bit left protruding after removing the tow bar. This worked a treat thankfully.

Fuel tank is back on. It was painted with black raptor textured bed liner a while back. I sprayed it with lanolin as well which explains the finger marks. Good stuff is sheep wax :epopc:

Image

Connected most of the tank pipes back up. Filler and breather pipes. A bolt on cover goes over that which I designed as originally all those pipes were accessed from the wheel well behind the rear wheel. A plastic cover was there originally to protect them but didn't do a very good job of stopping the mud, spray and salt getting in. My new design properly isolates the pipe section. I haven't hooked up the send and return pipes to the engine yet as there is still a chassis cross member to replace underneath.

I got a few bits back from sandblasting. Front bumper, rear bumpers & brackets, exhaust shield, rear door guttering, front header panel (between bumper and grill) and both front wings.

These were all sprayed with 2k epoxy primer (marvellous stuff) and then sprayed with three coats of 2K black raptor bed liner (textured polyurethane). The plastic bumper corners and wheel arch extensions have also been done with black raptor.

Here they are all hanging up in my soundproof drum room. It's well insulated so have been able to heat the room to enable the paint to go off effectively in this cold weather. These parts will all be going back on after Christmas

I am now sick of hearing Christmas songs. I haven't listened to an awful lot of music this holiday but I did enjoy a boxing day bath with my hand picked Wings compilation through my Bluetooth speaker. Music and a very large mug of tea in a red hot bath (and nobody bothering me for an hour) - bliss. I always get the urge to play Wings at Christmas

I'm waiting for a date for knee surgery. Torn ligament which is a real pain in the ass. I can't get on and do some of the things I need to get done which is very frustrating.

Plans for the new year - get rid of more physical and mental clutter. Finish my vehicle project and then terrorise a few snobby vehicle worshippers on the local roads.

Thanks Paul. I should be getting a date for the op anytime now. It's a simple keyhole procedure apparently, in for half a day.

Happy New Year to all my followers

The joys of diy (not). The washer is on its way out on our bathroom sink cold tap. I've lived in this house 19 years and have never replaced the washers on these taps  As you can guess the handle and screw on cover were well and truly seized on. No farming solutions allowed in the house as that tap would be toast.

Boiling water freed the housing eventually but the handle still wouldn't shift. Bearing remover was my first thought but too big and not ideal. There are tools available to buy for this job but do you think yorkshire farming types would spend £20 odd quid plus postage for one

I ended up making something :guiness; - small piece of 6mm ally, a 6mm bolt, two small u bolts and a few nuts and washers. Holes drilled for the two u bolts to grip under two opposite handles and a central hole which was tapped for a 6mm bolt. When on and the bolt end in the hole where the securing screw used to be, the bolt was turned and the handle came off. Hooray. It's disgusting behind the removed cover

The Daihatsu Fourtrak saga continues........

I have started putting it back together . Front wings, front bumper, grille, A frame and header panel put back on. The plastic arch extension is on also.

Image

Many new stainless steel bolts, washers, nuts and other fixings have been used in putting it back together. Also, you wouldn't believe the amount of lanolin, lanolin grease and copper grease that I have put on this thing. It's easier whilst it's in bits and some parts require taking it apart tk get to.

Image

Rear bumpers are back on. The lights are back in (not shown on the pic) and all working although a couple of bulb holders required cleaning to get them working. Inching closer.
