Been so busy that I've not had much time with the Daihatsu Fourtrak. Got some time today so making a bolt on section to go at the back of the offside rear arch so that the fuel filler and breather pipes are easy to access from the inside of the vehicle.
Involves curves in more than one dimension so not that easy. Impossible to do in one piece so two or three will be required. A bit of cutting and bending resulted in this.
I wondered what to do with the corner that sticks up. Can't bend it so will cut it off and make a bit to fit separately and then weld on.
I offered up this to what is left of the old arch - an inch wide strip all the way around which the bolt on new piece will bolt to. Here it is attached with holes drilled and some temporary bolts in. There's not much room for error here.
It needs a top so I cut a bit to fit with one 90 degree fold put in for the bolts needed at the front. It needs trimming to shape at the back.
From the front showing the folded over bit. This will overlap a vertical piece (not made yet) which will be welded on top of my new curved arch which encloses the wheel.
This has been done in a certain order to make sure it is a tight fit when finished. Welding can distort metal if you're not careful so the welded in bits will be welded with the other parts bolted on all the way around then the bugger won't move.

Not much progress on the vehicle front. Life has a habit of throwing stuff your way which gets in the way.
The removable fuel filler pipe access panel is getting closer to being finished. Also cut a vertical strip of steel that wraps round the curve of the new arch and is joined to a strip left over from the old arch where the interior cards attach.
Only one piece of steel left to cut and then a day of tacking together and welding. Still got a rear cross member to replace as well as new suspension spring hangers. Edging closer

I must be mad welding in this heat. Got a bit done today. Tacked the bits in between new arch and the existing outer bodywork on the drivers side. Used 1.5mm here for the long piece as I have no 2mm left. The small part near the sill I used 2mm as that will be more at risk of rusting.
Also started fully welding up the new panels inside. I weld an inch in one place then move to another on the other arch or other end of the arch so the heat doesn't get too much and cause warping. Needs cleaning up a bit but going OK so far.
