...Job security.
A guaranteed income.
Having a support network in place from day 1.
Easy access to transport.
A good standard of housing.
Family and friends around you.
Kindness from strangers.

Yet, when people who are born / live without any or most of the above go 'off the rails', we demonise them.

It's a funny old world.

Average cost of a funeral in the UK is £4K.

She must have had some deluxe plan at the Co-op! Every billboard and half the shops in the UK had posters up reminding us she had died. Every media outlet had pretty much dedicated itself to her death for the last week.

It’s set the bar somewhat high for my unwell mother.

I've already decided that my own funeral will be an "unattended funeral". Funerals are shit, so why put my friends and family through another one. You get whisked away and burned with none of the hassles. My kids won't have to arrange stuff, nobody will have to stand up and tell lies about me to everyone who knows the truth, and if they all want to use my death as an excuse for a massive piss-up, they can prove how much they loved me by paying for it themselves.

Oh, and it's around half the price of a "normal" funeral, so my kids get more of any money I've got left when I pop my clogs.
