Many of you will probably have little habits or rituals you go through when doing some serious listening (not just background music).

I have to admit that I have my own.

Feet usually up on a foot support, cup of tea at the side of me and low lighting if late.

I recently succumbed to buying a cheap pair of reading glasses (lowest magnification I could find).. Must be my age :hand: Anyway, if I am reading a book or my tablet whilst listening I often find myself putting the tablet down and taking my glasses off when an interesting bit comes along. For some reason I need to look over at the centre point between the speakers and "see" the various musicians laid out in front of me. Can't do that with bloody glasses on.

Yes I have lost the plot :shhh:

At least you had the plot to begin with, Stu.

Power the system up, sound check, foldback check, tweek the gains and eq, mix as appropriate.

Oh, were we talking about recorded music?

Switch on streamer PS and wait for it to boot up.
BubbleUp app on phone and select Qobuz or My Cloud, usually the former.
Artist, A to Z, album, load play list, play.
Sit back on sofa with feet on stool and enjoy. Minor volume adjustments via phone, major via pre amp.
Black coffee in mornings, often something stronger later in the day. :guiness;
Usually TV on with volume off watching recorded footie or sometimes cricket.

There was a time gack in the late 90's that I would pull out the cables and push back in once a week, usually kn a Saturday morning . Thankfully that didn't last and I am now fully recovered. I blame bloody magazines. And Peter Belt

Think "ohh fancy putting some music on".
Get waylaid by work or person wanting something
Complete errand/job/request
Look at records thinking "what do i want to listen to"
Get waylaid by email/phone call/person rattling on about something
Reply to email/phone call/person rattling on
Have to go out
Come back 2 hours later
Go back to step 1
Turn on amp, phono stage and preamp
Pick out record
Place on platter
Look at clock and realise kids are due back from school/college in 10 minutes
Sigh heavily and switch back off
Give it up as a bad job

1)Get up.
2) Decide whether it's streaming or CD.
3)Select album & Press play.
4)Do other stuff.

I've had years without music, but that time is now over.

With me, it's more likely that I'll be sitting at the computer and decide to listen to "something". So, I'll get up and turn the amp, streamer, DAC, and/or whatever on and sit back down to finish what I was doing. Then, a couple of hours later realise that the hifi is all still switched on but I never did decide what to play.

I'm blaming it on old age.
