Cost of living crisis

Unread post by karatestu »

Council tax bill came yesterday. Up £110 over the year. The cuntz are even voting on starting to charge extra for green waste collections.

Everything is up, energy subsidy has only a week to go before it ends. Food is up 30-50% on last year. Consumer goods are a complete luxury now.

When will the spiralling costs stop spiralling? Are they all necessary or is some of it just greedy cunts charging more cos everyone else is and they have a good excuse ?

War, pestilence and famine.

Russia-Ukraine, Covid 19 and a hot dry summer.

It's thanks to technology that things aren't a lot worse than they are.

When it comes to taxes: Government spending in the broadest sense of the term wins votes. Cutting government spending loses votes.
I can't control the voting habits of the nation. I can't change the behaviour or local and national government decision makers.

It's the same over here in The Netherlands. If the UK had stayed in the EU then you would still be faced with similar price rises.

Just had notification that our energy bill will not go up even more. Waiting for info about the council tax rise. Residents here are really pissed off that a foot bridge which enables a pleasant walk around the local lake has been awaiting replacement for four years when so much cash has been blown on unnecessary road "improvements". The council gets a lot of stick on line.

We could do with more road maintenance around here.
Money blown away, look no further than asylum seekers, costing us £6 million per day just in temporary accommodation! :angry-fire:

Most manufacturers and retailers are reluctant to put up prices, for the obvious reason that you will sell less product. Most will try to absorb at least some of their additional costs within existing prices. But it's not sustainable to sell at a loss.

By leaving the EU, we have created friction in much of our trade. Friction equals extra time and extra cost. All of Europe has high inflation, but the UK is the highest of the major European economies.

Inflation is forecast to come down to around 3% over the next year, but that doesn't necessarily mean that previous price increases will be reversed. It just means that the rate of increase will slow down.

The Home Office has been dysfunctional for many years. A combination of incompetence and head in the sand policies.

The Conservative party has an 80 seat majority, and they have a long and consistent history of cutting spending (in real terms) on public services.

Saw the Damned in Sunderland last October for £24. Their gig in a few weeks at Newcastle is £39 by the time you add on the fees. Giving it a miss at that price, even with The Nightingales supporting. Gutted to miss it, but you've gotta draw the line somewhere.

Got a couple of last minute tickets apps on my phone, hoping an offer will come through.

I used to go to lots of concerts before Covid, but not any more. Ticket prices have doubled and added to that beer prices are extortionate at the venues. To make things worse the late bus service has been curtailed and a taxi would be £20. It is just not worth lt as there is hardly any bands I would want to see who I have not seen many times before. My recent experience of being scammed via the Ticketmaster site is also a consideration.
