I love a good lawnmower As you might have guessed, I've got several . All different sizes, designs, ages. A common theme is they must have a Honda engine, non of that Briggs and scrapem crap.

This little beauty is my favourite. 1999 Honda HRB425C. I bought it new and it's been a wonderful little mower - never missed a beat. Gearbox is now shagged though so I've got a new one to fit. This mower is only little (17" cut) compared to some of the others i have. 135 cubic cm Honda engine with belt to the gearbox which drives the steel roller via a chain. It's not very heavy as the deck is plastic and it's light enough to push if I'm feeling energetic. If I'm feeling tired then I'll engage the drive (when it's fixed).

It will still be going when these modern cheapened mowers fall apart.

I had a Honda mower for a while but went over to electric (mains not battery). Now have a nice Makita mower that is lightweight, quiet and does the job.

I quite like the makita range of battery tools. If you buy from screwfix and it goes wrong within warranty, they just give you another one

I don’t like electic mowers, I can’t count the number of times I’ve chopped the cable with the mower. My neighbour was very proud of his ‘green’ battery powered mower until the batteries crapped out (just out of warranty).
I have a Mountfield 19” mover with a Honda engine. The last Honda I had lasted decades before the self drive system crapped out. I’m not mechanically minded, so paying a repair shop to fix it for wasn't economical.

Wifey keeps a grass collecting Flymo for the front garden (for when she wants to tackle it should I be travelling). But it’s just out of warranty and is about to shake the blade mechanism apart. So poorly built.
We bought one in the pandemic, and it disassembled itself in under six months. The warranty replacement is no better. Will need to find a small light mower for the front garden, as the Mountfield is too unwieldy in that complicated space.

The Mountfield is good, but my last Honda mower was better engineered.

I've always used a cylinder mower, maybe because my Dad did, but since moving to my present address and the previous owner leaving a small Flymo it's made me wish I'd used one of these earlier. We only have a small patch of grass, have even thought of gravelling or artificial grass but it only takes 10 minutes to cut.

Cylinder mowers are a pain in the arse. They are only good for the finest of lawns or sports fields where they are used before the grass gets too long for them. In the right conditions though, the quality of cut is unsurpassed. The grass is cut more cleanly by the scissor action of the reel against the bottom blade (if set up correctly) compared to a rotary with a blade spinning round at high speed (has a tendency to tear the grass especially if the blade isn't a straight edge).
