I was initially a little worried by the apparent lack of LF but further listening has shown it is there, just not artificially pronounced like my previous headphone's [Superlux HD662]. Massive soundstage, literally shut your eye's and your there - The polar opposite to Grado's "wall of sound" but thats not to say one is better than the other... After all they're only headphones why not own one of each flavour ?

You got the Pioneers yet Doc ?

Does your K701 say ''Made in Austria''

Good headphones. Very detailed an full of insight!

I got a pair of Sony MDR-V6 from eBay, imported from the USA:

I can see why they're the de-facto studio monitoring headphone & makes you realise what a flat response headphone sounds like. For £70 a no-brainer & respond awesomely to having an NVA AP10H up 'em, but at the same time they work fine with an iPhone or portable player without the need for a headphone amp - very sensitive, yet can soak up the power!

Yes Shane:

I think the previous owner had a slightly larger head than me as they're a little loose, maybe I'm just used to skullhuggers ! Also used to have some V6 but I gave them to my brother.

I use the AKG K601's (nearly identical to 701) and prefer them to Sennheisers and Grado's - although I've been told I need a better headphone amp (an AP10H).

The 601 has a rather loose fit, but this means they sit very comfortably and can stay on almost indefinitely. One of my part-time activities is putting English subtitles on Dutch business videos and these AKG's allow me to listen in a very detailed way for long periods.
They are also very, very pleasant musically and not tiring at all, although lacking the laser-definition of Grado's.

Ah thanks for that, I thought they had been stretched but its a design "feature" by the sound of it. X-Can's aren't bad, certainly a step up from the average 6.3mm socket on a piece of equipment ! I've not heard an AP10 so am blissfully ignorant

On a slightly different topic: I've just noticed those big Techies with the blown tweeters have been relisted @ £150 Buy it now... £50 more than I won them for, was it really worth it ?

My Pioneers have a problem as well, they have foam missing in one ear piece. If they refund me £30 I will repair and keep, if not they can have them back :x

Yes they were!

You can't always believe what people say especially private sales on ebay. If traders get caught at it they get kicked out.
