You're right mate, nothing good ever comes of discussing politics or religion.
It causes too much cortisol in the system. Time for some classical on the system and later a beer down the pub.

I was going to pitch in, but have put some Mahler on the hifi and if the rain holds off a long walk beckons later on.

Steve he said what you *said* was ridiculous not that *you* are ridiculous, and anyone is entitled to say that. I don't agree with you either but your heart is in it  Politics creates a lot of hot air, as though it was something of any real importance. Capitalism fecks up the planet with greed, fascism ferked up the planet with greed. Even communism f*cked up all based on *me* and what I want, which is more than others have, you wont change that bar genetic engineering as it is the basic concept and desire of life, from ants upwards (or downward) we want *MORE*. We now have the answer to all our problems no matter what it is, including religion, it is time we took over the responsibility of God as he has surely fucked it up, or more likely us taking over is just another stage in the genetic programming. Genetic engineering is the only answer, nature has to be changed, and we have the ability now slowly developing. If we don't then nature has its answer and its ultimate destination - destruction. Nature couldn't give a toss about us or if we fail as another string of genes will take over and Giant Ants or summik will rule the planet, perhaps they will be more successful but probably not.

Well I do get very passionate about some things and it has gotten me into more trouble than I can remember.
I took a stance against bullying with so much passion that it got me dismissed from my job.

The system always wins and I will never learn.

The definition of a lunatic is someone who repeats the same thing hoping that the outcome will be different.
I am that lunatic.

At 58 I really do need to find some way...any way to break the cycle.
Building my own valve amps really did literally save my sanity, and that does a lot to keep the demons at bay. But I need some kind of shift in the way I think about things and how I react to external events over which I have no control.

The capitalise the profits and socialise the losses philosophy, is what makes my blood boil and for the political elite and the right wing press to go after left wing people for asking the question of why the majority of hard working people in this country should have to pay for the results of the greed and corruption of the financial world whilst they live high o the hog and laugh up their sleeves at the rest of us is frankly laughable if it wasn't so serious.
I don't agree with a lot of Macca's politics but he is damned right that under a proper capitalist system, the banks should have gone to the wall.
No often anyone agrees with what I say politically so I will make a note in my diary ;)

The bank bailout was the final proof, if it were needed, that the system is rigged. And it was done under a Labour government. They had the chance to take the banks under complete state control - a central tenet of Marxism - and instead passed up the opportunity, bailed them out ands sent the bill to us.

I don't agree that the change in society post '79 was all down to Thatcher. I think the real driver was the oil crisis in the early Seventies. That really screwed up all the Western economies. Thatcher just inherited the legacy of that six years later. I appreciate it is easier from an emotional point of view to identify just one dog to kick, but it is not really what happened.

Steve - Well don't turn to religion, it is a dead end, a drug to help you die.

Problem is we are all blocked and finding our way past the blocks in most people is not possible. Start being a Buddhist monk at the age of 12 was one societal response, which gave some control mechanism.

Blimey I could go on and on, but then it is me being just as bad as the rest. I have found my *way* (tao) others have to find theirs. There are clues and signposts, and it is a game trying to find the path. BUT all roads lead to the same place - death  which for me is the universal joke

The late Horace Walpole summed it up succinctly:

'Life is a comedy for those who think, a tragedy for those who feel'.

Well it has convinced me the reality is the journey, there is no destination. Apart from of course death which is the end of perception (at least as we know it).

So enjoy what you have.

There was once a Yorkshireman who decided that slavery was fundamentally evil. He campaigned repeatedly for years until finally the outcome was different and slavery was abolished. His name was William Wilberforce. Personally I believe one should never abandon what one believes. If you took a stance against bullying then bloody-well done you.
