Re: prog rock
As long as it was released before 1972. Permy doesn't accept that anything decent was recorded after that.

Re: prog rock
CAN fans rejoice - 'Movies' has been reissued. Now called 'Movie !'
Holger Czukay's first solo album from 1979 has got the remaster/reissue treatment (new cover - above) and is available on CD again, and not just as an absurdly expensive Jap import.
This has been at the top of my 'CD's to get' list for the last 15 years or so, I even had to resort to playing vinyl when I wanted to hear it! A groundbreaking record of melodic quirkiness and dada-ist art. Krautrock disciples will appreciate the appearance of the rest of the CAN members on one track ('Oh Lord - Give Us More Money').
'Movies' could be regarded as the first 'sampling' album as Czukay inserts snippets recorded from short-wave radio and film soundtracks to create a collage that is fascinating and enthralling. Later albums like 'My Life in the Bush of Ghosts' from David Byrne and Brian Eno were directly inspired by this work.
Pristinely remastered and a joy to your ears this is a monument in the rock landscape which will also bring a smile to your face - AND you can dance to it.

Firmly rooted in the early 70s I think.

Re: prog rock
It's summer sales time and in my latest batch of cheapo CD's is something that might be of interest to fans of classic YES (come on, I know you're ou there somewhere).
Progeny: Highlights from Seventy-Two
Currently Steven Wilson is busy remastering the entire Yes catalogue and in a search through the vaults for master tapes, a box of reel-to-reel tapes was found that were recorded on 1972's 'Close to the Edge' tour, from which the triple-live 'Yessongs' album was released.
Regarding these recordings to be worthy of release they were issued as a 14-disc box-set 'Progeny'. A bit expensive for the casual fan, so a '2CD 'Highlights' set was also put out. This can be seen as an 'alternative Yessongs' with roughly the same set-list, but the performances are different and the recording is clearer and more direct.
I'll be comparing the two in the coming days. Yes were truly at their peak at this stage and their freshness and vitality just oozes out of the speakers. And the forthcoming SW versions might be something special as well.
