given the dictionary definition of both those terms , then anyone who calls it wire is wrong . 
EG. LS6 is speaker cable made up of several lengths of individually insulated wire .

If you're a tabloid journalist, or like expressing yourself in a similar way to people who write for red-top newspapers, you'd use a different euphemism each time you referred to the things that connect amplifiers to speakers.
EG: Cables, wires, leads, electrical conductors, copper string, Nordost beaters, signal transferers, connecting rope, TQ pocket liners, audiophile snakes, string o' beads...

Eh, if its just the stuff that goes from amp to speakers, I call it speaker wire. If I am referring to both interconnects,speaker wire, and even power cords, then I call it cabling. As long as someone knows what I am ordering, or when I am selling my own articles, then whatever name works well enough for me.
