JPW P1 Doc Mods

Wire is not important and decent thickish wire will do as it is so short. I use Bison Kit to fit driver no gasket is needed.

After a few days of preparing the cabinets to take the Doc Mod drivers, fitting them and leaving them on their backs for a couple of days I have put my speakers back into the system. I'm not sure that I can call these JPW P1s any more as the only items remaining are the cabinet, the tweeter and the terminal box

The preparation took quite a while as I did have to fill the holes for the original Vifa 8 inch fixings and I found that the Doc Mod driver was only about 7mm wider than the original hole, the fixing holes on the new drivers were slightly overhanging the opening so I filled these with adhesive . I didn't have Bison Kit so used the rubber based contact adhesive that I already had. I was a bit concerned that 7mm might not be enough to hold the drivers in place but now that they are stood in position they are fine and seem very secure.

Initial listening has been done with the boxes plonked on the stands with no positioning adjustments made yet until the drivers have had a chance to open up a bit. They already sound excellent and I would say that they have made the biggest improvement of any NVA kit that I have made so far. Almost everything just sounds better, the one exception is sibilants which seem to sound slightly pronounced at the moment.

Bass notes have taken on improved "shape" and there is much more depth and control to it. There is more vibrancy to the music now but it is not in your face in any way. I have just been listening to some piano which I always found sounded a bit hard with the Vifa drivers but sounds totally comfortable and natural now.

Anyway it's early days yet so I won't go into too much detail just now as things could change. Hopefully once things have settled I can get back with more impressions of the sound. it looks like the next step with the speakers will be Doc Mod tweeters.

You need to let them break in ,when I first heard them I couldn't concentrate on anything else because they sounded like phil Collins had a sever nasal congestion .

I can't say I'm getting that much of the nasal congestion effect, yes it's there but only slightly, or perhaps I'm less sensitive to it

Hi all,
Does anyone know what tweeter this is? I took a punt on a pair of JPWs, not knowing which model they were as there was only one photo in the listing. It showed the speakers with the grilles on. I believe they are the Mini Monitor and that tweeter is not standard. Could they be a straight swap or would the crossover have had to be altered too?

They don't look like the standard mini monitor to me. They might be from the surround sound sets that I think JPW did at one time.

I don't think so. This is the satellite speaker: (has the standard Audax TW010 tweeter they used)




My speakers have the correct dimensions for the mini monitor.
