Willie Bobo - Broasted or Fried.
The band set up an irresistible rolling groove. Impossible to keep still.

I love straight ahead, old skool danceable funk.

Re: The Fonk
I'm not really a fan, I appreciate the musicians more than the music in most cases, but I couldn't believe this thread was on its second page and nobody had mentioned this mob...

And dig dis, from Master of the slap bass, Larry Graham and his “Graham Central Station” project.
A fabulous souped up version of The Detroit Emeralds’ “Feel The Need”

Re: The Fonk
Next up is a tune from The Meters who along with James Brown are said to be the pioneers of funk. The Meters are from New Orleans and consisted of Art Neville (keyboards, vocals), George Porter Junior (bass), Leo Nocentelli (guitar) and Zigaboo Modeliste. They formed in 1965 and became the house band for Allen Toussaint's record label, Sansu Enterprises. As well as their solo work they played on records by Lee Dorsey, Dr John, Allen Toussaint, Robert Palmer, Paul McCartney, King Biscuit Boy, Labelle and opened for the Rolling Stones on their 1975 tour of America and 1976 tour of Europe.
This one is called Cissy Strut (1969). Dig it.

Re: The Fonk
I am pretty sure I sure I saw Graham Central Station live somewhere, ditto Tower of Power. For the life of me I cannot recall where/when. Ah the joys of questionable teen years

Re: The Fonk
Next up a funky tune from The Crusaders. Well you funk purists may say it's jazz funk but what the heck, its as funky as fook. The Crusaders (formerly The Jazz Crusaders) are most famous for working with Randy Crawford on Street Life but they have an enormous back catalogue of excellent music that if you haven't come across them before will blow your mind.
