Re: Your hifi plans for 2020
I haven't done it yet but I am planning on removing the outer black braid and splitting the wires in to their two types and then put each group in a PTFE tube. Thes two will then go in to a good quality shielded outer. Naturally the two discreet groups will come together for the woofer binding posts on my Cubix however I will only use the thinner group for connecting the two tweeters binding posts. FWIW I have no idea if this will make a jot of difference but it's a low cost/risk experiment so I am happy to give it a go

Re: Your hifi plans for 2020
Happy New Year all, firstly this year I will be looking into decoupling options for my newly purchased speakers and dependant on what we do, as we are thinking of moving later in the year, I may invest in a couple of Coherent Systems power cables to complete my loom.

Re: Your hifi plans for 2020
I actually managed to fulful one of my plans for 2020 which was to get the cole lcr phono stage fixed and working.
To make sure it was done properly, i got nick to fix it for me rather than bodging it myself.
It required a new mains transformer which i had custom made by toroidy, and some work to the earthing scheme to make it safe.
So following nicks work on it, i now have the last piece of the puzzle in place. The fault which blew it up took out the s&b mc step up transformers, so im using it with one of nicks ha1 solid state mc step ups.
And im very very happy with it.
It was very much worth having it fixed properly by nick.
So the '2020' system is now rather different to the '2019' iteration.
Now, it is as follows
Bte designs type3/b lenco
airprodigy linear tracking air bearing arm
Audio technica at33sa
Longdog audio ha1 step up
Cole lcr phono stage
Nelson pass b1
Nelson pass f5
Bte designs fane 15 speakers
Arcam delta 170.3 cd transport
Topping e30 dac
The missus still has the jvc ql-y5f automatic tt, and a benedict audio hothead phono stage, but with an audio technica vm540ml on it.
Unfortunately my dual eds1000 dd motor packed up so that deck has been consigned to the cupboard until i get round to having a look at it..

Re: Your hifi plans for 2020
Far from it. There have been so many digital tweeks; i Purifier, Cisco switch, new router, Cat 8 Ethernet cables and DH Labs USB and BNC cables. Not forgetting changing to direct input on the P90SA. The cumulative benefit is major. Also the second system with the Topping E30, AQ Carbon USB from the main system and direct input on the P20.
Main System
NVA BMU, P90SA/A80s (latest spec), Cube 1s, TIS, TISC(LS7)

Re: Your hifi plans for 2020
This year I've been experimenting with amp boards. I've tried in excess of a dozen.
So far I've 1 conclusions. Op amps on power amp boards aren't good for the sound.

Re: Your hifi plans for 2020
After having done precious little with my system for 3-4 years, I'd planned on nothing more than a couple of cartridge re-tips. Then I saw a reel-to-reel...
After that, it all went a bit hazy. Paul delivered a lovely NVA BMU, which kick-started my existing system in a surprising way, making me want to play far more music than before. Of course, being in lockdown helped, as did the lack of spending on the daily commute, socialising, clothes, etc.
A problem with my Whest phono stage led to both a repair and internal upgrade. This made my records even more enjoyable. Then I saw the opportunity to pick up a tonearm I'd been hankering to try for many years - the Dynavector DV 507 Mk II.
So I've spent far more than I'd planned (I did also get the cartridges re-tipped), but I'm listening to more music as a result. I suspect my next step is to have a cull of some of the records I rarely play to make more room for new stuff.

Re: Your hifi plans for 2020
2020 - the Corona year, nothing else to do but scour the web for gear.
(hey - that rhymes!)
So, I have acquired:
Fanless / silent PC with SSD and Intel Celeron i7 processor, running with Volumio OS.
USB cables from Inakustik, AQ Carbon and ending up with DH Labs Mirage.
USB reclocker: firstly Schiit Wyrd and then the Oehlbach XXL Masterclock.
Latest addition: DH Labs Air Matrix interconnects.
The equipment-buying frenzy will hopefully stop now, but the CD-collecting mania is still on full power with a load of 2nd hand Keith Jarrett discs on order from Medimops in Germany.
Which begs the question: is online shopping a blessing or a curse?
