I sort of agree on VA rating. But is it, on its own, much of an indicator ?

If we have two similar amps, one of 80VA and one of 100VA, then there is a comparison, but would that confuse mr average ?

What does the extra 20VA do ? I know, and you know, but it's not obvious to everyone.

I'm not going to give you any potential names, because, to me, names don't matter. But as I said previously, "Artisan" , of all the names suggested, is one that captures what I think is the spirit of NVA.

NVA will never be Mr. Average

I don't think using va ratings will put anyone off. At worst, they just won't know what they mean.

We bought an Audiolab 8200 cd transport. 8200 watts??

I had two custom toroidal transformers made for my 833a monoblocks.

They are 400VA, but on a 500VA core, does that really tell you (or anyone else) much about the amplifier ?

If you use VA ratings as model numbers then your sales literature need to explain what VA is, and why bigger is better.

And put numbers on the volume control, up to 12. ;)

Hahaha.

There's a great story to tell about NVA - we won't be shy about it.

If NVA is not going to use dealers, then it needs to work ten times as hard to communicate it's values and personality. That's why names are important...

......but give me another name that captures the utilitarian purpose and increased productivity of this amplifier.

Anyone?

I was told, many years ago, by a very wise person, if one has to make a choice (about anything) it's important to get it right. Sometimes choosing the best from a list is not the best option, because the right choice may not be on the list.

Big companies pay thousands to test consumer reactions to changes on well known brands, and still get things horribly wrong.

Paul - how much of what you purchase for your own use is influenced by the name, or number of that item ?

How about something blunt, direct and honest like:

'The Truth'
and
'The Whole Truth'

I think RD might like that.

Any suggestions need to acknowledge Paul's design brief / "utilitarian" concept.

Just cut to the chase and call it the NVA "Stakhanov" range. Very cool sounding.
And yes, keep the numbers, but forget VA. The numbers should refer to the tonnage of mined coal required to run the amp for a year. A kind of utilitarian approach to power consumption ratings.

Seriously, I like the new names.
And, they would pique my interest as a potential buyer. Certainly more than would the usual anodine corporate christenings that most hifi products receive.
I may be atypical. But so far evidence suggests that in general the new names are, at the very least, a talking point.
So, job done maybe...?
