Covid "jab" and Nhs.

Unread post by Ordinaryman »

Yesterday I went for my "jab" being 71 and my wife 72 both with underling health problems I was grateful to be called. I have to say we were both impressed and humbled by the experience at our local surgery. From the people that turned out to direct us to parking, the staff that saw us in and out and those who gave both of us our "jab" I would like to say a big THANKS. God thank for Anevrin Bevin and the Nhs. Whatever you feel about this and the situation we are in, these people deserve Great respect. I'm sure you know, rant over.

My mum, who is 96 and housebound is still waiting. She received an invitation to attend a vaccination centre, which was, obviously, useless to her, and when I phoned her GP's surgery I was told that she'd "be on the vulnerable list, and the district nurse will call on her."

Tomorrow I track down a phone number for the district nurses' office.

Sorry to hear that Slinger must be hard. Have to say that today for my wife and me on Sunday we both feel like shite, so much so that my wife is in bed and has been since 9pm last night. Please, please bear in mind if you have vulnerable parents and they have "the Jab" Keep in touch. Its quit scary for us old farts.

I touched base with Age Concern this afternoon - the number I retrieved from the associated NHS website for my local area district nurses returns a "number unknown" message - and my contact there, Kathy, suggested that I give it until the end of the week and if mum hasn't received a letter by then to contact her and she'll chase up the surgery who, despite fobbing me off are, it seems, responsible for arranging home visits with the district nurse.

Kathy, who I've dealt with several times before over various things, was even kind enough to give me her mobile number in case she's working from home. She hinted that they have had a few problems with mum's Surgery, and she didn't mind taking them on again one little bit.

My father (88 and vulnerable) is also waiting for his GP to make a home call for vaccination. No idea how long that will take.

Sounds like it is best to keep the pressure up on local authorities to ensure that those at most risk get innoculated ASAP.

I must admit, I've found Age Concern to be very good. They actually "care" it seems. It might be worth a call or an email to your Dad's local branch if something doesn't happen soon, Fretless.

Just had a chat to father and he has already had a reassuring contact with the local GP who is keeping an eye on the situation and will give him his jab at the earliest chance.

Sounds like things are under control there.

My mother had her first jab yesterday  Such a relief. Nearly lost her a while back and the last year and a bit has been a nightmare of worry and anxiety. It's not the end of vigilance by any means but a step forward.
