Obviously.

You asked why it might be worth going to the bother of modding a Lenco.

I answered the question that you asked.

Not sure it was my intention Might as well ask if it would be worth modifying my linn. Would that put them on the equal basis? Probably is closer to the question. Please review my post. As for the £3k versalax I have no idea and more importantly I don't care. Obviously you didn't either despite the outlay. All that tells me is we all hear different things, thank god. Maybe you got there before me. In witch case I wish you well. Maybe someday ill catch up :guiness;

I spoke about the Versalex because it was my personal experience of a direct comparison with a modded Lenco...and part of how I came to conclude that the Lenco is a bargain (albeit that it needs some mods to unlock it's full potential).

I have limited experience of modding LP12s. I had a Cirkus bearing and DC motor (Origin Live) fitted to a 1982 LP12 about 20 years ago. It certainly improved the deck dramatically. While I can't now make direct comparison with my modded Lenco, I do know that I want to listen to more records, more often than I did when I had the LP12. Other component changes are also likely to be contributing to that, of course.

We are all on our own, individual journeys, when it comes to hi-fi. I like to see people happy and enjoying their music for the least amount of money. If you're already convinced you are 100% happy, then I strongly recommend that you don't listen to a modded Lenco ;)

The lenco ptp will cost me £450 and bloody loads of man hours.

When it's finished it will be gorgeous and could not be beaten for the money. Sounds good to me.

I've got the lenco parts. Didn't want to use my working lenco, so I bought another lenco without the plinth.
.
Got my ptp.

Ordering the marine ply and plinth wood tommorrow. Then we begin.

Ordinaryman wrote: Sun Feb 21, 2021 6:54 pm Well said. After all its about what "you hear" rather than what we have been told by anyone. Would still put my 82 LP12 up against any of them, even with a cheap arm and cartridge. With one proviso, same amp, speakers, same monetary considerations. Not sure what my GL75 cost, but I'm sure its a lot less than current value, as is my linn. Still think GL75 is inferior.IMO
What, if anything have you done to your GL75 since buying it?
What arm and cart and plinth does it have? What arm and cart and options does your LP12 have?

What are your main speakers?

The thing about the lenco is the drive system . The motor is brilliant and the idler wheel on the underside of the platter is a work of genuis .

Its stable ,subtle and infinitely variable . For me it's so much better than the Garrard ,Im at a loss to understand the he price differential

The Garrard is great, but it is over engineered.

The Lenco is simplicity and quality. Nothing that doesn't need to be there. What is there is very well done. It lends itself much more easily to DIYers.

I find that a well set up Garrard has a metronomic quality that is addictive, but the Lenco is possibly the better all rounder. The Lenco is the bargain of the two, alright, unless you are very, very lucky.
