Bands / artists you would love to see live in their prime

Unread post by karatestu »

Most of the music I like is old and the people who made it are either dead, the band is long split or they have just lost the magic. McCartney, Wonder, Elton, Plant can't sing for toffee anymore. I think Roger Daltrey can still bang it out and maybe Mick Jagger.

Anyway, top of my list would have to be Curtis Mayfield. Such a tragedy when a lighting rig fell on him from a great height. A quadriplegic for the rest of his shortened life.

The Doors for me, especially when Jim Morrison was in his prime.

Also, Hendrix. I mean, who wouldn't?

Oh yeah, The Doors would go down a treat. Especially with a herbal cigarette or two

What did you think of Val Kilmer in the movie ?

I've not seen the film so can't comment.

One of my biggest regrets is not seeing more bands live when young, free, and single. I missed out on a load of acts through one reason or another, far too many to mention, back in the days when it didn't cost an arm and a leg or a re-mortgage to see them either. I did see the Ramones though about 78/79 when they were right at the top of their game, and got right to the front at the Manchester Apollo. What a gig, just a pure adrenaline rush from start to finish. Magical, me and my mate still talk about it.

I turned down a ticket to see the Ramones in Liverpool at about the same time: had an exam or some such the next day I think. Always regretted it, although my mate who did go, couldn't hear anything at all for two days afterwards!
I think I might be in the HiFi trade.
I am not currently seeking treatment for this.

I saw the Ramones in '79 or '80.

They had their cut their set from an hour to 45 minutes - the same songs, just played faster.

:character-beavisbutthead:

Wish I had seen Joy Division, though.

Ha! I nearly mentioned that fact, me and my mate were nearly completely deaf when we came out too. Awesome

Bob Marley, Stevie Wonder & Tracey Chapman would be top of my wish list. I saw most of the people/groups between 74 & 79 I wanted to see although with hindsight I should have made the effort to see the Clash. Pre covid I was still making the effort to see at least one gig every 4 to 6 weeks. Once an act gets to be popular enough to playing at larger venues for example Liverpool Echo arena or Manchesters MEN arena or whatever it's now called then I drop away and find something fresher and more accessable and I never ever sit, that's a complete no no for me and my girl
