Frankie goes to Hollywood ~ Pleasuredome on vinyl. This double album can be picked up for £5 without too much trouble. I had to give mine a good clean first and I am pleased to say it's a very good recording. Ok there's some fillers on there but they are more than acceptable and the big tunes still sound great. Who ever mastered it did a first class job.

Brilliant album and, effectively, Trevor Horn's follow up to the Buggles 'Age of Plastic' LP.

Clannad 'Anam' (1990)



Band of the Month is Irelands finest New-Age folk-rockers, the family band of Clannad. Currently grabbing everything I can find (that I don't already have) by them and Maire Brennan's solo work.

'Anam' is an album that, for many years, I only had on cassette (no idea why) and it is a lovely album, superbly recorded and produced - as all their records are. Gorgeous songs, fine playing and heartfelt singing from the mystical hills of Donegal.

Now where's that bottle of Bushmills ...

For the most part my preference is to embrace new music and not look backwards all the time however with an almost infinite number of releases that I am not familiar I will invest time in looking for "new to me music". One such find is St Germain and his Tourist album. I sampled a few tracks on Tidal and thought its worth a punt on vinyl.

On vinyl its stunning, its the 2018 recut with fresh mastering as the original was noted for two duff tracks. Its hard to pigeon hole it as it morphs from jazz, to jazz/funk and on in to deep house. This is a great example to anyone who says all modern records are compressed crap, this is crystal clear with a great sense of time and space and I stayed up in to the small hours playing it over and over.
