I have a 2011 iMac which I use for my iTunes library, no streaming, and all the apps still work, it also receives occasional security updates so Apple have not abandoned their older machines. I am typing this on a 2014 MacBook Pro 13" running Big Sur (MacOS 11.6, which is the latest).
