Isn't it amazing how precise they can be about Hancock's comings and goings, and yet on the nights of those "other" parties they don't even know who was there, let alone what time they arrived, or were decanted into taxis and ministerial cars afterwardsAfter the press conference, which finished at approximately 5.53 pm, Matt debriefed his own team, then went to the Downing Street garden to debrief the prime minister. He left Downing Street at 6.32 pm and went back to the Department for Health and Social Care.

Re: Opinions on how the Government have handled the coronavirus outbreak
Johnson is going to watch what happens.
He can't have it both ways. You either play it safe and lock down now or you take a risk on Omicron being relatively benign. It's an enormous risk to take but locking down now probably ends his premiership. I think we can trust him to put his career first.
He will be hoping that the public will do his job for him.

Neither he nor the deputy PM could be arsed to go to yesterday's COBRA meeting, so they're distancing themselves. Any further restrictions will be relayed by the BBC, the daily newspapers, and whichever poor sod of a civil servant pulled the wrong ticket out of the Christmas party tombola.savvypaul wrote: ↑Mon Dec 20, 2021 7:08 pm Johnson is going to watch what happens.

Johnson is probably already in someone else's villa and on paternity leave, with or without Carrie and the kids.

Re: Opinions on how the Government have handled the coronavirus outbreak
I can see the same things happening as a year go. Bodies piling up in January and a lockdown lasting a lot longer than it needed to be, had it been instigated sooner.

Re: Opinions on how the Government have handled the coronavirus outbreak
The Labour government in Wales has the sense to ban spectators in Wales from major sporting events, the Welsh Grand National on Monday being the major concern. In England the big King George meeting at Kempton is likely to go ahead along with the football matches where there are enough available players, all super spreader events. Have noticed that games have been played behind closed doors in Germany.

Re: Opinions on how the Government have handled the coronavirus outbreak
In retrospect, given the state of the cabinet & the Tory party, I reckon Plan C is now 'Cash Your Chips In' and stash as much cash as you can in a suitcase and leg it to the airport for Boris, exile in Venezuela beckons.

Re: Opinions on how the Government have handled the coronavirus outbreak
I went for my booster injection, today, but it didn't happen. Having pre-booked an appointment, I was s bit miffed to be told 'join the walk-in queue'.
I'd normally grin and bear it but my foot has been playing up (metatarsalgia) which means hot shooting pains after 10 to 15 minutes of standing, so I waved the white flag on it. Ironically, my doctor's appointment to look at my foot was postponed until mid January because the GPs are busy jabbing.

Re: Opinions on how the Government have handled the coronavirus outbreak
The staff at Downing Street haven't taken covid lockdown and social distancing restrictions seriously over the last 18 months. So why should we?
For sure it makes sense to take sensible precautions to avoid spreading it to vulnerable people. But that should be more on the basis of common sense. And doing it because we care. Not because of some pressure from a third party. Especially when the core leadership staff of that 3rd party have been entirely hypocritical over the restrictions they've tried to impose on others.
This amount of annoying hypocrisy looks like it will lead to the PM leaving his job either before or at the next General Election.
With hindsight it was a huge political mistake to impose legal restrictions on the general population. Because the people at the heart of the Government were never going to abide by those restrictions themselves. And because we have an open enough society that sooner or later their behaviour would be exposed.
In general in the UK we have a culture of the general population being a set of goody goodies. And doing what they're told, like good little citizens. But there does become a point where if you antagonise even the most mild mannered person too much, they resent it.

Re: Opinions on how the Government have handled the coronavirus outbreak
In Wales where we have serious leadership, as does Scotland, appropriate protections will come in from Boxing Day. In effect we will be where we were seven months ago. A far cry from the dithering of the knuckle head clown (Macron's apt description) under the thumb of the 100 tory MP pillocks who voted against the mild protections we have had in Wales for many weeks.

Is it only a matter of time before hypocritical behaviour in the Welsh and Scottish political hierachy is exposed?CN211276 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 22, 2021 2:14 pm In Wales where we have serious leadership, as does Scotland, appropriate protections will come in from Boxing Day. On the one hand, innocent until proven guilty.
On the other, history, including very recent history, teaches us that hypocritical behaviour in these contexts is very much human nature.
