My introduction was my Aunt Vi, her sister was my grandmother but Aunt Vi was my favorite.
She lived with a sister and a brother Flo and Den, but she loved music and we would listen to the Ink Spots , Elvis and many more all on 78's.
When she died she left me all the 2,000 plus 78's and a old clock work player , I miss her still to the day. and it has been 45 yrs.

Re: Impressions from youth
Fond memories. I find myself looking back more as I get older.
Will my kids (12 & 8) remember these days of a JBL charge 5 Bluetooth doodah? And the crazy music I subject them to.
I wish my parents had kept that HMV stereogram , it might have sounded crap but it looks amazing. I remember it selling in an auction in the 80's for £2

Re: Impressions from youth
Just found the stereogram dad bought after the KB valve radiogram expired.
HMV Stereomaster: The mid - bass speakers were in the sides and the tweeters were at the front. Dad had it sandwiched between the sideboard and the bureau so the mid - bass units were almost blocked off. No wonder it sounded crap.

Re: Impressions from youth
Nobody would approve of the stuff i l heard music on as a kid. Well they might some of it and not other bits.
Shelves stuffed with lps built into alcoves either side of the chimney breast, built from joists to hold the weight. At floor level there were 2 18" tall brick walls built in line with the front of the alcoves with a shelf on top of them. There was a marantz amp with power lights arranged in a v shape which danced, a linn axis with a green and a red light on the power button, a tandys cd player and some castle speakers. And an arcam alpha radio that was always turned on to radio 2 at 4-5 in the morning when my dad got up for work
That would have been about 1986 ish.
When i was older there was a full linn system, pretek and powertek amps, index 2 speakers and an lp12 with akito on it. The lp12 came first.
I remember my mother telling my dad that if it came home with an ittok on it she would break it over his head. She wanted a kitchen not a hifi. And an arcam delta cd transport and dac. That was at at time when if you wanted something, you did overtime at work for as long as it took to earn the extra. Mi dad did 12 hour nights for weeks on end to afford the lp12, that would have been about 1988. The overtime paid for the lp12 and for a kitchen to be built. Built not bought, that kitchen is still in to this day
The amps speakers and the delta cd would have been early 90s.
There were also some diy transmission line speakers built that i have no idea what drivers were in.
Mi dad was never entirely happy with the linn system, a cat pissed in the power amp and blew it up. It was replaced with a mysical fidelity xa1 about 1997 ish.
Strange how i remember all that but i cant remember what i had for dinner yesterday....

Re: Impressions from youth
Aye, ours would probably have sounded great but for the position it was rammed into. Mum and dad never moved it, so I’ll never know.
