Seems seismic isolation works both ways, protecting the world from Stu’s speakers!

Folks, this whole thread was a great read, right up my alley. Sorry for being late to the party but I just wanted to chip-in with another semi-DIY option.

In December I bought a pair of Spatial Audio X3s. (These are a dipole design). They came with crappy cone-shaped feet from the manufacturer and the skinny on various forums was that they worked well with the IsoAcoustics GAIA II.

Before buying the GAIA II I decided to try and make a ho-made design using springs. I used to be crazy about putting brass cones and footers under everything, then someone turned me on to the idea of trying springs, and I've never looked back.

Anyway, I bought some spring isolation footers from China about a year ago (you can also get them on eBay and Amazon) and had a bunch left over. They're from Nobsound (I think that's the proper spelling) and look like this:

So I fancied trying them under the Spatial Audio but they need a quick modification to add lateral stability. Quick and easy modification with a 1/4" drill bit and a countersink tool and they look like this -

You can add/remove springs (up to 7) to get them to sit with roughly half-way compression. They're pretty sideways stable.

Anyway, they sounded very good on the Spatials, more clarity, bass tightened up a tad, touch more air and detail, definitely noticeable and worth the $60 I paid. I later added two sets of IsoAcoustics GAIA II at around $600 and the sound went backwards. The GAIA improved only a little on the stock feet, but the spring system sounded much better.

This is on a suspended wooden floor.

It should be noted that the front/back soundwave pressure effect on the baffle is fairly equalized on a dipole design.

Anyway, that's just another option for people to consider as a low cost alternative to Townshend products.

We are going to be demonstrating the starter bundle (P50, S80 cables) as a table-top system at shows, so was looking for something to isolate them. A much bigger improvement on the previous hard rubber feet than I had expected. I also ordered a set of washing machine cups, to compare...they arrive next week.

How do the washing machine cups compare with the mini-pucks?
Better than the hard rubber studs but not nearly as good as the iso pucks ..
My Cubettes are now supported by iso pucks and I am very pleased. There is a noticeable improvement over the more solid washing machine feet I had been using. There is greater clarity throughout the frequency range which was being masked by resonances from the chest of draws undrneath. I bought them from Scan Computers at lower cost than Amazon with next day delivery. Well worth the money.
