The Beatles 1967-70 2023 Remaster

There is a lot of discussion about this and the red album on Steve Hoffman with most posts being favourable, with dissenting voices about individual tracks. My personal opinion is that these two albums with many additional tracks have never sounded better, downloaded to WAV from Qobuz Sublime.

The Prog Collective. Seeking Peace.

If you haven't heard of The Prog Collective it's what you get if you take a bunch of well known prog rockers, mix and match them into different combinations and put them into a recording studio in L. A.. 5 rather nice albums apparently.

Genesis 'The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway' (1974) (2008 remaster)

Image

Recent events have had me pulling out old, trusted and familiar albums - a need for comfort and safety. So the likes of The Alan Parsons Project and Supertramp have been in heavy rotation.

My music story really begins with the 70's output of Genesis and all roads lead, eventually, back to them.

It's been a long, long time since I seriously listened to 'The Lamb', a unique record, there's nothing like it. What is clear is that my stereo installations are very different nowadays, far more revealing of detail and dynamics, clarity is the key. I used to look for a warm, enveloping sound that I could sink into.

The music hasn't changed, I have.

I remember disliking the 2008 remaster series initially as being too open and clear (although better than the previous 'Definitive Edition'). But now I marvel at the depth and subtlety of the playing here with especial respect for both Mike Rutherford and Steve Hackett, who's contributions amaze with their sensitive complexity.

Nothing beats the Classics.

I recently read an interview with Steve Hackett about this album. There were tensions in the band during the recording and it was obvious Gabriel was going to quit. He rates Foxtrot and Selling England higher as do I. On previous 50th anniversary tours these albums were played in full. The Lamb will be played in part this year, probably because of its length. It looked like Cardiff would be cancelled because of the roof repairs. Thankfully it has been moved to the larger arena venue.

Must dig out LLDB today.

It' weird, PG's Back to Front, Secret World and Growing Up DVD's have been on rotation here. It started with watching the Secret World show on amazon, which got me wondering how many PG LP's have I missed and where are these wonderful songs. Turned out I'd missed no LP's, just that for some reason Up/Us hadn't left that much of an impression at the time. Quite why i don't know as they are very good LP's. I- O is a grower but what worries me is that we'll all be long gone by the time he releases his next Lp in 2045..

Judas Priest - Nostradamus

Something of a diversion and a very. devisive underrated album. Interesting comments in KK Downings autobiography. He wanted them to play it in full on the tour. There failure to do so was a contributory factor in him leaving and they have not been the same since.

I got the Judas Priest box set a few years ago to remedy some big holes in my collection. Nostradamus was an unexpected standout amongst the later stuff.

says the man currently listening to Bernstein's Beethoven overtures.
