Re: Forum Slow Running & Hanging
I don't get it. This is just a text based forum. With links to photos and videos stored on other websites.
So why is it so bloody slow?
It's like 1996 era dial up modem internet connection speed.
Time to get the hosting guy to put this site on his Windows NT computer with an ADSL connection.

Re: Forum Slow Running & Hanging
The hosting company is now saying that the slow response times are being caused by a particular couple of bots that are 'hitting' the site a very high number of times each day.
Terry has added a txt sheet to block the bots, but it can take 24 hours for the cache to update. If that is the problem then we should see an obvious improvement.

Re: Forum Slow Running & Hanging
I suspect you will find its the ClaudeBot and or the Amazonbot. If so, they ignore robots.txt. I had to use ModRewrite (assuming you are using Apachie) to stop them.
RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} ClaudeBot|Amazonbot [NC]
RewriteRule ^ - [R=403,L,END]
Of course YMMV.
