Folks
I have just acquired a pair of Royd bookshelf speakers which I assume are Edens. Unfortunately, the bass driver surrounds have gone. Can anyone advise where I might source replacements. Please don't advise replacement surrounds. Last time I did that it was a disaster and I had to chuck the speakers.
Looking forward to your helpful replies.

I'm not sure you can buy originals, but this site will know better than me...TheMadMick wrote: ↑Tue Jul 30, 2024 12:50 pm Folks

Re: Royd Eden Bass drivers
You presumably have original speakers not the short lived simulacra of a company .
If so your only hope is a 2nd hand driver and ive not seen many .
Replacement is a thorny subject. How do you replace a Royds bass driver ? For what it’s worth , my opinion is you could try doping two bass drivers , there are plenty of threads on this forum .
Start with Richard Dunn in the archive , he knew and respected Joe .

Re: Royd Eden Bass drivers
When I've done bass foam surround replacements, it's been a near-disaster. Saved by a bit of care and attention.
Trickiest bit is glueing them so the voice coils don't rub. You can take the dustcap off and put a roll of cardboard to position them accurately. Or - there's the bodgier method that I use of gently pushing the cone in to feel where it rubs and feel where it's centred best and then doing one's best to glue it in what feels like the best position. Followed by checking it with the finger push test and then listening to bass heavy music at generous volumes.
Most time consuming bit is cleaning the foam and glue off.
The foam repair kits are fairly cheap. Assuming they're available for your particular woofers.
Seems like it's worth a gamble - for you or a friend to try refoaming the old woofers first. And if that fails, get another pair of woofers. Unless of course you can source the woofers at a price that's competitive against the foaming route...
This is also one of those times when I wonder if you could find the tech specs of the original woofers, including Thiele Small and getting a fairly close match and using them. As a pragmatic solution?

Re: Royd Eden Bass drivers
Sorry guys. These are not Edens as my further research has shown. Not sure what they are. Try this as a link.
Think I'll also ask around the driver suppliers to see if they can match it reasonably closely. However, they aren't in great nick so not prepared to spend a lot on them.
Thanks for all your help so far.

I think you might have a pair of Royd Sevens?

Re: Royd Eden Bass drivers
So, tried to find replacement drivers. None of the independent suppliers responded so I searched for 5inch drivers on t'internet. To my surprise there were similar ones so I took out the existing ones to find that the port was glued to the back of the speaker unit by and aluminium tube with an internal port cut in it (never seen that before). So I thought, why bother. Nice idea as they came for free but not really worth the effort for something that would almost certainly be out of balance when fired up..
Thanks for all your input guys. Seemed like a good idea at the tine.
