Cable connection to speaker terminals query

Unread post by dazmb »

Doc how much cable connector metal has to be in contact with terminals for full signal to come through from amp? Is there such a thing as less than 100% signal from cable to speaker? The reason I ask is that as feared I did specify slightly too short LS5, and as such it's not quite long enough really for cable connector to go into top facing hole in terminals. I did connnect them like that initially before the cables were fully routed in room, but there is not enough slack to allow ideal speaker placement. So finally after routing cable around fireplace etc to have correct placement I have had to connect up by putting them into underside hole of terminal having unscrewed the caps.

I could be imagining this as usual but sound seems a bit leaner the latter way compared to the original preferred way. The only difference I can see is that there is a better / snugger connection with more cable connector & terminal metal touching when the connectors are pushed in from the top hole as opposed the way I had to do it (as below). Is there any substance to this, or is it in my head?

If that is a picture of as is it looks pretty optimum to me.

But if you hear something wrong maybe it is, but as I say it looks fine to me.

Think it was my imigination Doc (as usual)... new LS5 sonic subtlety and I did move the speakers and probably did not go back in quite same spot (bass is probably sensitive to positioning with rear ported Rega RS1's despite Rega's claims to the contrary).

LS1's will be heading your way next week.

It is very simple Jammy, how do I tie up something arriving in the post with an average of 30 emails and PMs per day. A note in the box solves the problem.

I have posted about it loads of times.
