Today...

Kate Rusby - Sweet Bells (been playing along to it with my penny whistle - great fun) and yes I know it's a Christmas album but it's just breathakingly wonderful music-making, any time of the year. Discovered this thanks to Theo, not realising that one of my muso mates had been touring all last year with KR.

Marcus Miller - The Sun Don't Lie (check out his version of the Weather Report chart 'Teen Town' - awesome, and the drummer has his snare drum wound up so tight I'd swear the head's about to break).

Toto - Falling In Between. Still the best new (to me) album I've heard this year.

Having got a new vinyl spinner, I've given it a bit of a thrash.
Nirvana 'In Utero', Paul Simon 'Graceland', Najma Akhtar 'Qureeb', Kid Creole and the Coconuts 'Tropical Gangsters', Ivo Papasov and his Bulgarian Wedding Band 'Orpheus Ascending'. I have been fortunate enough to see the latter. A very good advertisement for music to be taught by example ' cos even if you could notate it, it'd be just about impossible to read there seems to be about a zillion notes a minutes in some of his stuff.
And, maybe for something completely different, Four Tet.
