The Thorns by The Thorns. What a cracking album! It was one of those "It's only a penny, I think I'll take a chance" deals at Amazon and it's well worth every...well...penny. Think Crosby Stills Nash & Young, The Beach boys, Tom Petty, Eagles...and that's only the first two tracks. Lovely "Summery" sounds, and possibly the best penny you could spend this week.
Thanks to Slinger giving me a sampler of his, I've also been on Amazon for cheapo CD sets of early chilled stuff from around 2000 - rather more up-beat than current stuff. So I now have two CD sets and a downloaded one no longer available on CD I believe. Some of the recordings are really good (a Boards of Canada one especially on current listening...).
Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way...The time has gone, The song is over, Thought I'd something more to say...
The Moulettes "Constellations". (Vinyl) I think I read them defined as "orchestral folk ". Not to sure about that. Revival prog rock maybe. Certainly well put together and sounding very good. I could see this being a face dem record back in day.
I've got this one going at the moment and yes, it's THAT (Sir) Christopher Lee. It's not a 'one-off' either, he's recorded several albums, EPs and singles in this vein.
This album actually won the "Spirit of Metal" award from the 2010 Metal Hammer Golden God awards ceremony and the award was presented to Sir Christopher by Black Sabbath's Tony Iommi. I'd have paid to see that.
I just love his last recordings. All the American recordings are wonderful. His voice is overflowing with emotion, wisdom, love and a life well-lived. Just utterly gorgeous on vinyl but still full of intensity and beauty on CD. Did I just say that about CD? Man he must have pulled on my heart strings. God bless you, Johnny and thank you for the music
