Hi,
I have some Belden 8237 RG8/U FR-1 coax lying around surplus; about 8.5mtrs.
RG-8/U type, 13 AWG stranded (7x21) .085" bare copper conductor, polyethylene insulation, bare copper braid shield (95% coverage), PVC jacket.
Will this be any good for interconnects or speaker cable ?

Should be fine as an interconnect.

My old Exposure CD has old fashioned locking BNC co-ax connections on it. I found that an old bit of co-axial network cable (which is what the Belden is - network cable, not necessarily old) with BNCs on it, when cut in half and terminated with an RCA worked just fine.

BNC's might not be quite as good as the full size plugs the Doc recommends, but they really are better than RCA plugs as long as the cable fits. I still think XLR's are good as well, as they're easier to solder up quite often and the contact area is excellent. You need one male-female per channel though and not use it like a giant DIN plug as MF, Linn and Naim once did (Naim still do)

XLR sound no better than Phono mainly because of the mass. They are not designed for sound they are designed for Pro reasons of ruggedness and ease of use. BUT even so the old telphone plug (1/4 inch jack) as used in pro before the XLR fad, and still used for guitars and mics is sonically better.
