Colin Man, my heart goes out to you, now alas I fully understand the depth's of your despair...
Man can cope with great adversity throughout life - he can endure divorce, financial turmoil, treachery, illness and a multitude of suffering.....But to have tasted and enjoyed the "Water of Life" only to be cruelly deprived of it is indeed the ultimate sacrifice and a torture no Man should have to endure....
I hope you recover soon..........Meanwhile.

No you can't mistake a tic, it sits there attached to you, growing a big bag of your blood on its back. And the only risk from a tic sucking your blood is Lymes disease which is as rare as a TAS entertaining thread (yawn).
I had a couple in France visiting friends after a walk in the woods. You have to use tweezers to make sure you get all its jaw parts out when you detach it as any bits left behind can cause infection, but they leave no poison or any result of their work, not even as bad as a mozzy.
