Summer of '76, sitting outside the Tiger Tavern, drinking pints of Pils, bloody hot. And in September, Queen live in Hyde Park on the anniversary of Hendrix's death. 76 was a bloody good year. I was 22.

I spent the summer playing cricket and skiving off work. Had my two Leicester 2nds games that year, and some local MCC and Leics Gents games. The wickets were bad as the hosepipe ban also applied to club cricket squares. Ours was like a beach. BTW I was 29 and was coming up to the horrible FFS I am 30 paranoia the next year.

My other memory was driving along the M1 with continuous fires on the roadside every mile or so. It was blamed on people throwing fag ends out their windows as the grass was so dry.
