The most important differences weren't down to scale of presentation. They were more fundamental than that.
It was about which system had greater clarity. Which system sounded as if the amplifier had greater control over the drivers (or the drivers greater control of the air) and which system sounded as if the drivers were playing the music how they wanted, instead of how the amplifer / source wanted them to.
Which system sounded sharply and finely etched. Which system sounded as if it was playing through 3 inches of cotton wool.
Which system was better at retaining all the fine detail that helps to make it sound as if you're listening to real singers and real musicians playing real instruments right there in your room, instead of sounding like you're listening to an audio system.
