Sonos 5 has been mentioned so that can go on the shortlist.

Others I have looked at are

Audio pro C10 mk2
Audio pro drumfire blackstar edition
Elipson W35
Bluesound pulse 2i
I demoed the KEF at home and was hugely disappointed. I thought they sounded crap.
That does not surprise me. I don't think it can compete with quality wired hifi for sound quality.

That Audio Pro Drumfire looks ideal, lot of speaker for the money.

Would you mind elaborating a little ? What was it that made you disappointed?

That's what I thought Dave. It looks like a guitar amp with separate head on top. I reckon when slinger sees this he will want one .....and try to plug his new guitar in

According to Stuff magazine it blows the bloody doors off. Not that I need big volume but we all know large drivers hardly moving can have an advantage.

I am seriously considering this one

If the reviews I have read had been better then I would have been all over this one. Shape remind you of anything ? If what hifi only gives it three stars then it can't be any good  I am not sure I should suddenly believing what whathifi says

Looks amazing to me but then y'all know I'm a sucker for a sphere. I might put this on the shortlist anyway. I am trying to chose from Richer Sounds so hopefully can get to hear them in one place. They sell this and the Audio pro, sonos, Bluesound, even the B&W Zeppelin.

On what planet is a single 8" woofer a large driver?

My Linn Saras have 2 x 8" woofers per channel. They're as midrangey as hell. They sound like they are shouting to be heard at generous volumes in a large room.

My Heybrook HB1's have a single 8" woofer per channel. They sound lean.

2 x 12" woofers in a large semi-infinite baffle box can give good bass, if the woofers are of sufficient quality and designed for infinite baffle.

18" or larger woofers can also give reasonable bass quantity and quality.

The trouble with places like Stuff magazine is that they don't have a clue how to put together a listenable used or DIY'd hi-fi system for £100 ish. And on top of that, the Stuff review is acting as if used and DIY doesn't exist. The review is basically an advert. It is not a sound piece of consumer advice.

I see this type of crap advertising all over the place on the Internet. Not just in audio. In other fields as well. With IT and laptops being particularly prone to the Buy New Advertising content. Instead of giving good consumer advice.

Went to one of my sister's for the evening last night. It is a dangerous thing to do because her husband is a B&O fanatic. He has two systems made by them. I made the mistake of telling him my plans and next thing you know we are pouring over the B&O website and he wants to take me to the B&O shop in Harrogate. He is on first name terms with the staff

I have agreed to go with him and have a listen. Must leave all forms of payment at home.

Out of all their speakers I think I will want to listen to this. Beoplay A9. Dimensions are 71cm wide by 90cm high which is a big old archery target

Can't seem to post a pic of it.

I think they were probably talking relatively ie compared to other wireless speakers of a similar price.

What you say is very true though.

Hobson's Choice.

All £600ish brand new wireless speakers will be utter wank compared to what else you could put together for less money through the used / DIY route.

When you go to the B&O demo will you be taking your own system along? For an AB volume matched mini bake-off?

It's one of those where I'd be wondering how cheap a system I could put together that would beat the £2899 A9 for sound quality.
I'd have a reasonable chance of doing it for £100. I'd see it as an exercise for doing School For Scoundrels type understated Oneupmanship on the Brother-in-Law and the B&O dealer. :angelic-halofell:

I had two different experiences of these speakers. The first was at the Windsor Hi-Fi Show, I think Antonio may have been in the room at the time with me, and they sounded amazing. Really great imaging and depth. I then arranged for a home demo. What I thought I was getting was a loan for a period of time. What I got was a chap who brought them over for an hour, set them up and stayed there while I tried to decide whether to buy them or not.

I have no idea what happened between Windsor and my home, but they were incredibly disappointing. Music sounded flat, indistinct and even bright. We tried in vain to position them to improve matters, to no avail. The dealer was trying to tell me how amazing they were while we were listening to a track that sound bloody awful on the KEFs.

Hard no from me. I have tried other active speakers since (ATC), but haven't found anything that performs as well as the Cube 2s and separate amplification.

HTH.
