There's a lot o0f misinformation going about. Mainly that you can save on gas by using electricity. Plain nonsense. If the generators are using gas to produce electricity at about 40% efficiency and there are losses and overheads getting it to you, then that can't make sense.

Look at your bills. Gas is about a third of the price of electricity and so your gas heating appliance will need to be about 30% efficient to make them equal. Even a flame effect gas fire is about 50% efficient.

The most convenient thing we ever did was to get Peggler Terrier iTemp thermoheads. They are a combined timer and thermostat and replace the thermostatic head on your radiator valves. Not only can they switch the flow on and off to the radiator but the sensor is much more accurate than a typical thermostatic valve. Win, win. (Other variants are available). So now we don't heat rooms that are unoccupied and get more accurate (read cheaper) heating in the rooms where they are fitted.
